“Y’all teach sewing here?” he asked, eyeing the rainbow wall of fabric.
We sure do.
Earl said he was tired of buying flimsy store-bought swim trunks and figured he’d sew his own. “How hard could it be?” he said, with the kind of confidence you usually see before someone wrestles an alligator on a dare.
He picked out a bold flamingo print (“for intimidation,” he said), some elastic, a basic pattern, and a spool of thread from the bin. We rang him up, wished him luck, and went about our day.
Three days later, Earl came back.
Sunglasses on.
Towel around his waist.
Grinning like a man who’d seen some things.
“I need more thread,” he said. “But this time… make sure it’s not the kind that melts in water.”
Apparently, his big debut at the local pool ended in a cannonball… followed by a rapid disassembly of his trunks mid-splash.
The flamingos floated.
Earl did not.
The thread?
Water-soluble.
Moral of the story? Always check your thread labels. And maybe leave the poolwear to the professionals. 😂
Have a great weekend, friends—and may all your seams stay secure.
