Hi Friend,
Do you ever have a project that starts out beautifully—like, “this might be Instagram-worthy” beautifully—and then somewhere around hour three, you hear yourself mutter: “Well that wasn’t supposed to happen.”
Let me take you behind the seams of my week.
I was working on a collage quilt—you know, the kind where you lovingly place a bunch of fabric scraps in just the right spot while your dog or cat judges you from across the room. This one had a soft scrappy background, the sweetest blue fabric for the butterfly and bright orange and blue flowers!
I had it all laid out. Background: perfect. Butterfly wing shapes: perched like it was ready to flutter right off the quilt. Iron in one hand, scissors in the other.
And then it happened.
In a moment of fierce concentration, I pressed everything down with gusto and… yep. Glued. My. Scissors. Right between the background and the butterfly.
Not beside the butterfly. Not near it. Between it. As in: if you lift the wing, you’ll find my blue-handled Karen Buckley scissors trapped in a fabric sandwich.
Now, some folks might call that a crafting fail. But I prefer to think of it as “interactive quilting.” (The scissors were, for a short time, officially part of the design. Modern art, right?)
And that’s the thing about quilting. It’s messy. It’s funny. It keeps you humble.
But more than that—it connects us. Whether you’ve steamed (or glued) yourself to your quilt or stitched a masterpiece without breaking a sweat (teach me your ways), you belong here.
At Fox Country Quilts, we’re not just selling fabric or longarm machines. We’re building a community where you can laugh, learn, and create something meaningful—sometimes even with glue on your fingers.
If you’ve ever had a moment like this—where the quilt bit back—I want to hear about it. Hit reply and tell me your funniest quilting oops. Let’s normalize the mess behind the magic.
And if you need a fresh pair of scissors (or a butterfly intervention kit), come see us. We’ve got everything you need to keep quilting—and a whole lot of heart to go with it.
Thanks for being part of this wild, wonderful quilting life with me.
Happy stitching,
Donna
P.S. Our customers are more than just customers. You're the reason we can keep doing what we love. Every time you buy from us instead of a big box or faceless online store, you’re keeping the lights on, the machines humming, and the scissors (mostly) out of quilts.
