No pattern transfer. No measuring. Just squares.

Hi Friend,

I want to tell you something that will make you feel a lot better about chicken scratch embroidery before you even pick up a needle.

You don't need to transfer a pattern. You don't need to draw anything. You don't need graph paper.

Because the gingham already did it for you.

Every colored square on a piece of gingham fabric is your stitch placement guide. The grid IS the pattern. You stitch across the colored squares, and the white squares form the design automatically.

That's it. That's the whole secret.

The fabric does half the work.

This week I'm starting to share something I've been teaching in the shop for a while — our Chicken Scratch Embroidery 'Your Way' series. Four lessons. Four projects. One complete skill set that takes you from your very first X stitch all the way to a 6-block sampler quilt.

Lesson 101 starts with the most satisfying beginner project I know: a stuffed pincushion in your favorite gingham color.

If you want to be first to know when spots open: reply to this email or watch your inbox.

Next week I'll tell you where the name 'chicken scratch' actually came from.

(It involves a husband, a lace trim, and a disagreement about aesthetics. You're going to love it.)

Until then,

Donna
