Good morning Friend,

I'd like to report a crime that occurred this week.

Victim:
Two perfectly innocent parallelograms.

Suspect:
Me.

The incident began innocently enough.

I was happily chain piecing.

The seams were beautiful.

Everything was lining up perfectly.

Then...

Someone started talking to me.

Now, I have no idea what they said.

It could have been important.

It could have been,

"Donna, the building's on fire!"

I honestly couldn't tell you.

Because somewhere during that conversation...

I calmly picked up my fabric.

Turned it the wrong direction.

And proceeded to sew AND CUT a couple of parallelograms...

Backwards.

Not one.

But two.

I didn't notice.

The machine didn't notice.

The fabric certainly didn't say anything.

It wasn't until I proudly carried my beautiful pile over to the design wall...

...that I realized both units was mirrored.

You know that feeling?

The one where your brain whispers,

"Maybe it'll still work..."

Spoiler alert:

It did not.

There was no creative trimming.

No magical pressing technique.

No inspirational YouTube video.

No amount of positive thinking.

Those pieces had officially entered the Witness Protection Program.

They could never become the quilt they were destined to be.

So...

I recut them.

Every.

Single.

One.

The good news?

The second batch was absolutely perfect.

The better news?

I now have an excellent reminder that multitasking and precision piecing are not close friends.

So here's this week's quilting tip:

If someone starts an important conversation while you're sewing...

Smile.

Nod.

Finish the seam.

Then answer.

Your fabric will thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Donna

P.S. If you've ever sewn an entire stack backwards, mismatched lefts and rights, or confidently stitched something only to discover it belonged on the opposite side... you're among friends. No judgment here. We've all donated a little fabric to the "School of Experience."
