Subject: You've eaten almost 50 pounds of this in 2020

And by year's end, it might be more...
It's crazy to think that in the US, we eat an average of 53 pounds of bread every year, but we do. That's a little over one pound a week and with the holidays just about a month or so away, it could be more than that!

I love bread. I used to make relish sandwiches on Wonder bread when I was a kid. Yeah, relish. I know, I guess I've always been a little "food" eclectic. The point is, most of us have eaten additives in bread for most of our lives. So, what's the big deal, right?

Thanks for being here...let's keep the conversation going so we can all have clean, healthy food on our plates!
The big deal is, our bread products (especially the non-organic ones) can contain additives like potassium bromate and azobicarbonomide. Yeah, say that fast 10 times.

We've all literally been exhausted reading the back of the bread ingredients list full of words we can't pronounce, have no working knowledge of what exactly those ingredients are, or what they can do to our bodies. Additives in bread include dough conditioners, preservatives, GMO's, sugars and artificial colors and flavorings.

But why are these things in our bread?

It's half-baked madness.

And the truth of the matter is, these additives, specifically potassium bromate, has been shown to destroy the genetic material in our cells. Not only that, it's been banned in so many countries around the world, but not in the United States.

Makes you wonder what the heck is going on at the FDA....

Anyway, since we talked about whole grain and whole wheat flour last week, I figured this week, we should talk about one of the oldest, simplest food staples in the world, bread. I hope you take a break and listen to the full episode, and share it with someone you love.

I'll see you on the other side of the plate.

Chow,
Michele

p.s. Please forgive me. This episode was scheduled to be released at 9am yesterday...but technical issues. :(
