Subject: Resistance is futile...the bacteria are winning

There are more of them than there are us!
Hey Food Slayer!

First, I have to apologize.

I spaced out and forgot to hit "send" on this email last week. I am so sorry. No excuses, and I hope you accept my humble apology.

I suspect, my brain might be under attack!
Thanks for being here...let's keep the conversation going so we can all have clean, healthy food on our plates!
This episode blew my mind. My guest breaks down antibiotic resistance...and the bacteria are winning.

So, let me back up for a second. I've been going down some really compelling "rabbit holes" lately, and some things I've discovered circle right back to the topic of antibiotic resistance.

While I was tangentially learning about antibiotic resistance, I had NO IDEA what that really meant, how it worked inside our bodies and I certainly had no clue what we could do about it.

UNITL....

I invited one of my favorite guests back to the show to talk about it. You've heard his voice before and if you have listened to any of my previous episodes with him, you already know. Tanei Ricks, PhD. is droppin' coins, baby!
As per our usual, we get into it and I'll warn you, this episode is long. There's a cuss word or two in there (which is why it is marked "explicit") and as much as I tried to keep it under one hour...I just couldn't do it.

There are so many gems.

There is so much to this antibiotic resistance issue. Everything from the overuse of antibiotics, especially in livestock and meat production, to the contamination of our waterways, to the weakening of our white blood cells over time that diminishes our ability to fight off bacteria...and on and on.

It's diabolical, to say the least.

Don't get me wrong...there is a place for antibiotics and in some cases, they are necessary to save a life. But what most of us don't really understand, because we aren't biologists, is too much of a good thing can be a problem.

In this case...antibiotic resistance is a BIG problem.

Where things really got interesting in this conversation, was when we were talking about protein receptors...

Yeah. We totally geeked out and Tanei broke things down into layperson's terms, which is so great for people like you and me that helps us really understand what is happening at the cellular level. #mindblown

I'm not going to spoil it for you, but I will say that the pervasiveness of antibiotic use in society has created more than one super bacteria and they are trying to kill us.

Like, for real.

The good news is...there are some things we can do about it.

There are front end solutions and back end solutions.

The front end solutions rely on us coming together to stand up in our local communities or propose alternatives and preventive measures to the way we create, use and dispose of antibiotics.

Back end solutions are things we can do as individuals, in our own lives to assist our bodies and our immunity.

Look...I know some of you aren't going to do sh*t about this, and that is okay. You do you, boo boo.

I mean, we're all going to die anyway, and there are more of them than there are of us, right?

Right. But for me, personally...I'd like to know who and what I'm up against, and what tools or knowledge I need to kick it's friggin' arse, if it comes to that.

Either way...this episode is, in my opinion, really great.

Tanei and I always have a good time. Lots of laughter, great information and I even share a few things about my journey you've never heard before. :)

Anyhoo...thanks for listening and sharing this episode with someone you love. Until next time...I'll try and keep my brain out of "rabbit holes" and send out my emails on time!

Chow,
Michele
