2019 FOMR Float Trips
Registration for all of the FOMR 2019 paddling float trips are available at the button below. This year, we offer you a fishing trip, a morning wildlife-watching trip, a dusk trip that pulls into takeout after dark, and a trip that lets you dip your paddle into 4 rivers in one day! The trips are already filling fast.
  • All trips are $10 per person.
  • Space is limited.
  • All trips are on Middle River, except the End of Summer/End of the River float which includes parts of Middle River, North River, South River and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River.
  • Bring your own boat. Life vest required.
  • Registration in advance required by signing up at the links provided.

Even More Float Trip Options

In addition to the organized monthly float trips, Middle River expert Roger Robinson will periodically offer short-notice float trips which he calls “Spontaneous Floats.” Anyone who wants to can join him.  Roger will lead the trip, secure landowner access permissions and help coordinate the shuttling of vehicles to the takeout. These floats are only announced on our Facebook page, usually 1-3 days in advance of the trip.

The spontaneous paddling trips are free, are NOT covered by FOMR insurance, are NOT FOMR events, but ARE just as fun!

Kayak and Canoe Rentals

Want to join one of our float trips, but have no boat? One person kayaks can be rented locally for $35. A canoe or two-person kayak can be rented for $60. Rentals are for 24 hours. Reserve in advance from Rockfish Gap Outfitters,
1461 E. Main St., Waynesboro, VA. 540-943-1461.

Fishing Licenses

Don’t forget, buying a fishing license not only keeps you legal out there fishing, but it supports a great cause! The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries gets most of their income from hunting and fishing licenses, so buying a license directly funds the agency! And you will need a valid fishing license if you plan to come on our Fishing Float Trip on June 8!

FOMR is excited to announce the beginning of a multi-year partnership with StreamSweepers, a charitable non-profit out of Orange, VA.

StreamSweepers is a Job Corps Program that provides comprehensive river cleaning and assessment services for entire watersheds. In addition to cleaning up river trash, StreamSweepers can provide on-going service and riparian assessments of river valley health. StreamSweepers is funded through the generosity of riverside landowners wanting to improve the beauty and value of their riverside property frontage as well as through donations by any party or individual concerned about their local rivers and streams.

Photos Needed!
FOMR is working towards launching a new website!  We are now searching to collect the best photos of Middle River and her tributaries that exist in the recesses of our members' computers. Especially needed are beautiful scenic river photos, but of course we'd like to see any shots you feel capture some special time engaging with the River, micro to macro! Please email any digital photos you'd like for us to consider to info@friendsofthemiddleriver.org
