Pack, Paddle & Camp

Skill-Building Paddle Trip

Have you dreamed of taking on a paddling/camping expedition, but not been sure if you were ready for that? We’ve put together a planning/packing class followed a few weeks later with an overnight camping/paddling trip to help you build planning and packing skills and then test them out with your canoe or kayak on Middle River. On the water, you will learn by doing, paddling with the extra weight, sitting lower in the water than you may be used to. This will be a 2-day paddle trip with one night of camping.

Not all paddle craft work for camping because they just cannot hold enough gear.  If you are unsure if it is even possible to do paddle-in camping with your particular boat, send us a picture of your boat and our instructor, Guy DeBrun, will weigh in on whether it is practical for you to try this trip.

Class: Thursday, June 23, 6-7:30pm

Trip: Saturday, July 9 to Sunday, July 10

Cost: $25 per person

Call for Leadership

Volunteering as a Director on the Board of Directors is one (of many) ways to get more involved with leadership in Friends of the Middle River. Every year some of our Board Members complete their terms and rotate off the Board and new persons come on. We are always seeking persons interested in being considered for Board service. Want to learn more?

Board Member terms are three years. Board terms start January 1, and our recruitment and interviewing process runs June to October. We aim to create a diverse board, with the skills and experience that we need at any given time represented.  Remember, there are many ways to provide leadership besides Board Directorship, including volunteering for committee Chair roles.

If you would like to speak to someone about the possibility of leadership service, please start HERE. The information you give us will be added to an applicant pool for use in filling future board vacancies. We will then be in touch with you to further the conversation!
