Season's Greetings from FOMR
The Steering Committee of the Friends of the Middle River is proud of our accomplishments in 2015. |
- In February, we became part of the Friends of the Shenandoah River (FOSR), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which has been doing nutrient monitoring in Augusta County since 1997.
- All donations made to FOMR after February 16, 2015, are tax-deductible.

With the help of our many volunteer Friends, we had a great year:
- Our benthic monitoring program at nine locations along Middle River in the spring and fall went very smoothly.
-
We sponsored a booth at Earth Day in Staunton in April.
- We participated in several events at Kites 'n Critters in Staunton in April.
- We sponsored a Bird Walk/Canoe Float along a stretch of Middle River in April |
- In July, we started a year long study of the amount of E.coli bacteria in the streams in the Upper Middle River area - Middle River main stem, Back Creek, and Eidson Creek.
- Our volunteers include teachers and students from Riverheads High School and Shenandoah Valley Governor's School. Data thru November is here.
- Our annual "Splash 'n Dash" canoe/kayak race was held near Ft. Defiance in August.
- Here is Rob Cone's Splash 'n Dash Video, featuring the music of the Steel Wheels.
- Our annual "Friends Fest" barbecue picnic along Middle River near Verona in September was attended by more than 100 Friends. |
-
Also in September, 60+ volunteers helped clean Middle River and Lewis Creek at our annual Middle River
Clean-up Day. 214 tires were fished out of the River!
If you feel that we have earned your support, please consider a year-end tax-deductible donation. |
