Rollin' on the River

Have you tried to buy a kayak lately? Good luck finding one! Our wild areas of lakes, rivers, forests and mountains, are calling... and people are responding with increased visits to seek out relaxation and restoration while physically distancing.

Many of you are heeding the call and Rollin' on the River this year. We have seen a big bump of interest in our River Access Program (RAP). Want to help by supporting our programs like the RAP and maybe win yourself a terrific kayak? How about buying some raffle tickets!

Cleanup Week Has Begun...Early!

The river cleanup team who call themselves Three Old Guys hauled tires out of Middle River like nobody's business...until they got to tire #20. That one--still on the rim-- wouldn't budge. Three Old Guys were lucky to get some needed extra help from Will Griffin who used his 4-wheeler to winch it out of the river. Thank you, Will! The discarded reel lawnmower was a bonus!
Gate Etiquette

A reminder to all who may be travelling through private property (with permission, of course!) in order to get to a river. Remember the rural etiquette code! If you find a gate closed, make sure you close it after you go through. And if the gate is open when you arrive, make sure you leave it open after you pass through.

July E. coli Monitoring Results

July results show elevated E. coli levels at six of the 12 sites on Christians Creek and three of the four sites on Middle River. See the exact numbers HERE.
Webcast: How's My Waterway

From the Environmental Protection Agency's August 27th, 3pm Webcast flyer:

This webcast [is]... a live demo of the recently enhanced version of How's My Waterway. This webcast will provide an overview and demonstration of this user-friendly, accessible, data-rich and map-centric How's My Waterway application. Participants will feel empowered to communicate water quality information to their community in order to restore and protect their waters.

How's My Waterway pulls in data from eight databases across the Environmental Protection Agency through web services with the goal of answering questions about aquatic life, eating fish, swimming, drinking water, restoration and protection.

This demo is meant to help users:
             • Explore information about their drinking water, local stream conditions                and whether their waterways are suitable for swimming or eating fish                  and if they support aquatic life.

             • Discover if their waterways are being monitored and the location of local                monitoring stations.

             • Learn what issues might be affecting their waterways.
