Citizen Action: Recently the State Water Control Board opened a comment period to revisit the adequacy of the Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide 12 Permit (NWP 12) for stream crossing sites along the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP). Click HERE for a letter from one of our FOMR board members that you can use to inform your own letter, if you choose.

The ACP crosses streams in the Middle River Watershed a total of 41 times.  The NWP 12 will allow construction crews to do things that VA's DEQ Water Quality Standards would never allow.

The VA State Water Control Board is concerned and wants to hear from citizens, regardless of whether they are for or against the ACP. Specific details on this issue are available at the Augusta County Alliance website at http://augustacountyalliance.org/weigh-in-on-our-water/

The comment period has been extended to June 15th.

If you are concerned about the impact of the ACP on the water quality of Middle River, you are strongly encouraged to read up on the issue and write a letter or submit an email (or both)to DEQ.

Include in your comments:
  • Your name, mailing address and telephone number
  • Pictures, maps, news clippings or other visuals to help emphasize your concern, if you can
Then submit:
by email – NWP12InfoOnACP@deq.virginia.gov
by mail – DEQ, P.O. Box 1105, Richmond, VA 23218

Thank you so much.
