Winter Saltwatch is an easy winter stream monitoring project that can be done by just about anyone on their own schedule, including kids! The goal of the program is to monitor excessive road salts that wash into our waterways by taking a reading of the chloride levels in the water before and after a winter weather event that causes salt to be laid on the road..... Friends in the News
FOMR Friend Paul Bugas gave a great public talk at the Wayne Theater: Fisheries Management 101 covered the basics of what VDGIF does to care for the freshwaters of our region. He touched on non-native invasive species, dams, hatcheries, stocking, pollution and, of course, cows in streams. Great job, Paul!
FOMR Friend Kate Guenther was hired by the FOMR Board in January to be the Watershed Administrator, the first part-time, paid employee of FOMR. Up until now, Chairman Joe McCue functioned in that and many other roles during his leadership tenure.

Kate is looking forward to getting to know more Friends and to learn more about the natural history and ecology of the river. Pictured here, she holds a giant stuffed fish--perhaps a Spotted Bass-- that benthic monitor and FOMR Friend Adrie Voors found for Kate.

Outgoing Board Chair, Joe McCue is freeing himself up to do river projects of his choosing with FOMR. He is training Kate and preparing the new Chair. Joe's leadership and management over the years has brought FOMR far; integrating FOMR into existing conservation networks, developing projects and assuring FOMR stays on good financial footing.

Incoming Board Chair, Dave Mangun has stepped  up to the plate to take on the future of FOMR. He is in the process of learning about nonprofit leadership and is absorbing from Joe the many details, processes and events that make FOMR tick. A retired engineer, Dave is a riverside property owner on the Middle River.
