Subject: Local environment issues

Two local environment issues that
may be of interest to FOMR members
1.
Climate Action Alliance of the Valley (CAAV) invites you to attend a very special public forum we're hosting, with Shenandoah Group of Sierra Club and Chesapeake Climate Action Network, on March 20 in Harrisonburg.  Details appear at the end of this message in our press release.  Also, attached is a flyer about the event.

This event will allow members of the public to learn about recent legislative efforts to move Virginia towards a more sustainable economy and environment.  These proposed bills addressed important issues like renewable energy, energy efficiency, carbon emission reduction, and transportation.  While there were some successes, most bills along these lines failed.  Fortunately, we did get some favorable action on land conservation and Chesapeake Bay restoration.  The public would benefit from learning how this came about.  Attendance from folks who focus on these issues would inform the panel discussion.

We are inviting many elected officials and their staffs and hope they will accept our invitation.  We will have a panel of three strong speakers to help us identify possible approaches.  We hope you will attend and speak up.

2.
Lynn Cameron of Friends of Shenandoah Mountain is reaching out to FOMR members to see if we are or know of any farm owners in Marshall Pattie's district--the North River District (North of Rt 250 and west of I-81) of Augusta County who might be interested in endorsing the Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area proposal.  Marshall is for the proposal, but we need to show more support from his district, especially from farms and sportsmen. Lynn is compiling a list of people in Marshall's district who are for the proposal.

Friends of Shenandoah Mountain has 372 endorsements from businesses and organizations. I have several farms on the list and would love to add more.Sportsmen and sportswomen endorsements would also be helpful.
