We have some big changes to the booklet this year. We have updated our manual with new information on our access sites and some new advice on preparing for a trip on the river. Please read through the manual to be sure that you are up to date on the revisions! Our site at the City of Staunton’s Gardner Springs Pump Station will remain unavailable for 2024 while construction of the addition to the pump station continues until January 2025. We added two access sites on the upper end of the river at MM 43.8 and MM 42.9. Check them out to see what activities are permitted. Additionally, the contact information for our site at MM 37.3 has been updated.

We are also asking for your feedback this year on sites that you are using and portions of the river that you would like to use if we could get access from private landowners. After a trip, please send an email to info@friendsofthemiddleriver.org providing the start MM and end MM and the number in your party. Please include any information about hazards such as downed trees across the river or anything else we should know about river conditions.

Let's make sure we keep the landowners in our program happy with their decision to have joined! Follow their rules, and please make sure to express your appreciation at every chance you get.

Enjoy our beautiful Middle River this year!

Thanks,

Wayne Nolde; River Access Program Manager
