Kinshasa, 12 May 2016. Under the distinguished patronage of the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, His Excellency Joseph Kabila Kabange and on invitation of the Minister of Water, Environment, Territorial Development and Urbanism of Burundi, Acting President of the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) a special session of the Council of Ministers in charge of the Environment and Forestry of the COMIFAC member countries took place on 12 May 2016 in Kinshasa.

The survey conducted by OFAC-COMIFAC and RAPAC, with BIOPAMA’s assistance, on the Protected Area sector's expectations of the Regional Observatory was a success: more than 160 survey forms were filled out by a wide variety of actors! Based on these intermediate findings summarized in the attached document, the team plans to plug some gaps identified in the sampling in the coming month : there is a need for better representation of riparian actors of protected areas and national opinion leaders and to this end they will need to fill out a few more survey...

Bonn, 19 May 2016--The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has formally announced the appointment of Patricia Espinosa as Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC. It follows backing for his recommendation by the Bureau of the UNFCCC who met in Bonn, Germany on 15 May ahead of ongoing meetings to advance the aims and ambitions of the new universal climate agreement adopted in Paris last year.

A group of NGOs, including Fern, has issued a briefing paper calling on the EU to strengthen the measures contained in the FLEGT Action Plan as a way of tackling illegal logging. The briefing is the NGOs’ contribution to the policy debate related to the evaluation of the FLEGT Action Plan, the review of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR), and the EU’s commitment to halt deforestation and restore degraded forests by 2020.

ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire - the illegal trade of timber and forest products in West Africa was the focus of a regional law enforcement meeting hosted by INTERPOL’s Project Leaf (Law Enforcement Assistance for Forests).The Regional law enforcement meeting on illegal trade of West African rosewood (held between 24 -28 May 2016 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire) brought together law enforcement representatives from Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Senegal and Togo.

The information exchange platform AFRICA-TWIX is operational since 15 March 2016. It has more than 70 operators responsible for the implementation of the CITES in four pilot countries covered by the project (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo).

The first conference on the Initiative of the Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel (GGWSSI) was held in Dakar from 2 to 7 May 2015 under the theme "Restoring Africa Landscapes - The way forward". The ministerial segment of the May 3, 2016 ended with the reading of the Final Declaration of the Conference.....

South African National Biodiversity Institute Implements Projects through ‘Enhanced Direct Access’ Approach with Community Small Grant Facility. Washington, D.C. (June 1, 2016) — In an innovative approach to respond to local climate adaptation needs, a pilot Community Adaptation Small Grants Facility in South Africa funded by the Adaptation Fund (AF) has reached a milestone with the approvals of its first four projects.


Global Environmental Change has been the premier journal for publishing innovative research on the human and policy dimensions of adaptation to climate change. To celebrate this, the journal has prepared a virtual special issue comprised of thirteen papers published in the last ten years that significantly advance the frontiers of knowledge about adaptation.

NEW YORK, 02 May 2016 / PRN Africa / - Following the destruction by Kenya this weekend of virtually all the country's stockpile of ivory and rhino horns in protest against poaching, two senior UN officials offered their support to African countries in the fight against the illegal trade in wildlife species.

The Sr. Manager of IT Service Management is responsible for the IT infrastructure and information systems for the Africa and Madagascar region. He/she will work with the Country IT technicians within the region to develop sustainable support structure addressing the support needs of the users in the country and program offices. The Sr. Manager of ITSM also works in conjunction with the other Sr. IT Service Managers to ensure that global "follow the sun" technical support and network operations coverage are maintained. The individual will also address escalated problem resolution when necessary. 



The coordinator is responsible for coordinating the proposal process, processing agreements and payments, collecting and organizing reports and corresponding evaluation data for both types of grants. In addition, the coordinator will serve as a primary moderator of a special community of practice designed to promote best practices for leveraging the Roots & Shoots model to create meaningful experiences for young people in nature.


Location: Arlington, VA (DC Metro Area). The Conservation Business Models Associate designs and implements new business and investment models that promote sustainable production of global commodities, while also conserving and restoring critical landscapes, and protecting natural capital, including carbon, water  and biodiversity.
