"Nothing protects your skin better than charcoal," I assured him.

So on the weekends, my son would make chemical-free soap in the garage.

The hardest part was...all of it.

Forcing soap to "go to trace" can take up to an hour. This is when Lye is contemplates donating a few atoms to fat molecules to make soap.

Chemical reactions aren't trustworthy. You never know where an electron is, which means you never know how an atom is going to behave. therefore, in chemistry, you just have "an idea" of what's going to happen.

"So, while you're waiting for soap to trace, think about your future and how to best prepare for it," I'd insist.

I started planing my future over 30 years ago.
