Subject: Revelation Before Revolution: George Whitefield's Preaching

A Message by John Huffman

Dear Families,

This month marks an incredible milestone for the United States of America! The Lord has blessed our nation with 250 years of freedom, and we praise Him for His mercy to this country.

As we reflect on God’s faithfulness in the past, let’s consider the life of George Whitefield, a preacher and an evangelist, who was a powerful instrument in the hand of God during the Great Awakening. The message of the month for July is “Revival in Preaching” and is a dramatic presentation of George Whitefield by Pastor John Huffman.

George Whitefield preached the Gospel across the American colonies. Through the power of God’s Word, many responded and called upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and were saved. Whole churches and communities were profoundly impacted.

In spite of recurring health problems, Whitefield traveled hundreds of miles, preached to millions of people, and shared thousands of messages. He preached with fervency as a dying man to dying men! He realized that life on earth is short and that people needed to hear the Gospel. Only eternity will reveal the full impact of this faithful servant who relied on Christ and boldly proclaimed the Gospel, even in the midst of persecution and challenge.

As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday this weekend, let’s recall that there was a revelation that came before the revolution. It was the revelation of independence from sin and self through Jesus Christ that Whitefield preached. This message of salvation paved the way for the other freedoms we enjoy. May this remembrance of God’s mighty working in the past stir us to faithfully share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Let’s pray that a great awakening will once again sweep across this country!
