NOTICE 1-25-23: This quarter’s topics will be about Word Play, specifically Homophones. Each topic for this quarter will be a pair of homophones, words that sound the same but have different meanings. I understand some are reluctant to use the words in their entry (which is not against the rules), but part of this quarter's Challenge is thinking about the sounds and playing with the words. Be creative, you can still show and not tell and use the words. We have to use words as writers.
Do your best to use BOTH words in each entry and have at least one of the words central to the topic of your entry, but be sure to be clear about which word you are focusing on (or both!). This should be really challenging and hopefully a lot of fun! Please see the forum or our Facebook page for more information and discussion about the topics.
Another Great Benefit of Our New Challenge - We all know that the internet uses keywords to find relevant articles. If you search keyword search tools, you will find plenty of them. Our current Challenge focuses on the use of two keywords that need to be in the article. This is great practice for our members who hope to write for online sites and publications. Websites want articles that get hits on keywords. Enter our Challenges this quarter and you will expand your writing creativity and prepare for those online opportunities at the same time.
We will be testing this change and depending on the response, we may revert back to the single topic during the quarter. So, please pay attention to these messages. Fiction and non-fiction entries are both encouraged.
If you have any questions, concerns, complaints, or feedback about this quarter's Challenge format, please email Michael@faithwriters.com.
ONE WEEK CHALLENGE BREAK Begins February 9
Topic 6 – Begins February 16
Please take a minute to review our rules if you haven't read them in a while.(https://www.faithwriters.com/challenge-submisson-guide.html), especially about our word count. Part of the Challenge is to write something that is between 150-750 words. Part of the reason the word count is so important is that if you are submitting things for publication, most have a very strict word count and will reject work that doesn't follow their guidelines completely, including word count.
