We Would Love to Have You Come Back to The Challenge!
Awaken Your Creativity with our New Style Writing Challenge
Fiction and Non-Fiction Entries Encouraged

Plus, an early start to the Challenge that starts on 3-2-23.

This quarter’s topics will be about Word Play, specifically Homophones. Each topic for this quarter will be a pair of homophones, words that sound the same but have different meanings. I understand some are reluctant to use the words in their entry (which is not against the rules), but part of this quarter's Challenge is thinking about the sounds and playing with the words. Be creative, you can still show and not tell and use the words. We must use words as writers. Do your best to use BOTH words in each entry and have at least one of the words central to the topic of your entry, but be sure to be clear about which word you are focusing on (or both!). This should be really challenging and hopefully a lot of fun! Please see the forum or our Facebook page for more information and discussion about the topics.

Topic 8 – Begins March 2 / Ends March 9 (Do not submit entries for this topic until after 11:30 am New York time on 3-1-23.)
Soul / Sole
Winners Announced March 16

Another Great Benefit of Our Current Challenge - We all know that the internet uses keywords to find relevant articles. If you search keyword search tools, you will find plenty of them. Our current Challenge focuses on the use of two keywords that need to be in the article. This is great practice for our members who hope to write for online sites and publications. Websites want articles that get hits on keywords. Enter our Challenges this quarter and you will expand your writing creativity and prepare for those online opportunities at the same time.

This should be really challenging and hopefully a lot of fun! We truly hope our long-time members who love the Challenge and new members will all join us.

Please see the forum for more information and join our private Facebook group HERE, for Challenge topic and other discussions.

TITLE: Bad Words | Previous Challenge Entry
By Shann Hall-LochmannVanBennekom

Sighing, Wrigley plopped down next to Grandma. “I need a hug.”

Grandma wrapped her arm around Wrigley’s shoulders and kissed the top of her head. “Bad day in first grade?”

Tears welled up in her eyes. “The worst.”

Grandma said, “Wanna talk or snuggle?”

“Both.” The little girl wiggled closer. “I just don’t get people.”

Grandma smiled. “Me neither. And I’ve had more years to learn too. Some days I don’t think I know much more than I did when I was your age.”

”Really? I thought you knew everything.” The two sat in silence until Wrigley sighed again. “Lisa said a naughty word today. Ms. Jones was mad.”

“Wanna tell me?”

Wrigley shivered and shook her head. “No one should ever say that word aloud. It's been banned now. There’s a new kid in our class, Breah. She looks different than people around here.” Wrigley cupped her hand around her mouth and whispered, “She’s Black. But that’s not the word Lisa used.”

Nodding, Grandma said, “I see.”

“She said, ‘We don’t allow,’ um, you know…” Wrigley shrugged her shoulders and fidgeted on the couch.

Grandma said, “Hmmm. It’s true that Stone’s Falls has almost all white people.”

Wrinkling her nose, Wrigley asked, ”Why? Are different people not allowed to live here?”

“Of course not. It just happens that few people of color live here. Actually we are all different. But we are also more alike than some people want to admit.”

“But why are some not allowed here?”

Grandma cupped her hand around Wrigley’s chin and tilted her face so she could look into her eyes. “Oh honey. It’s not that certain people aren’t allowed; it’s more that not many people of color live here. And before you ask why, I’m not sure I can fully answer. There are lots of reasons. Stone’s Falls is a small, rural town.

"I’m glad a new family moved in. Maybe things will change. But I’m also sad that Lisa even knows a word like that.” Grandma wiped away a tear.

Wrigley scrunched up her face. “The thing is, Grandma, I don’t think she knew it was a bad word. She said everyone in her family says it.” Wrigley felt her cheeks grow warm and lowered her eyes. “I didn’t know it was a bad word either. I hear it on TV and the bus all the time. It’s even in some songs.”

“True, that word gets tossed around a lot, and when I was your age, it was the word everyone used. But now it’s a hateful, hurtful word. One you should never say.”

Wrigley snickered. “Yeah, I figured that out when Ms. Jones went berserk. Her face turned red and she yelled, ‘I never want to hear that word in this class again!’ Then she made Lisa apologize to Breah. Lisa said she was sorry and she cried. A lot. She kept saying that she didn’t know it was a bad word. Some of the kids laughed. But Breah didn’t. She said that it was okay, but Ms. Jones said,‘That word is never okay.’ Then she said we were going to talk more about it next week.”

“It sounds like Lisa and Breah had a rough day.” Grandma patted Wrigley’s knee. “You, too, huh?”

Wrigley nodded. “I’ve been thinking. A lot. I’m glad Lisa was wrong about certain people not being allowed to live here. That idea made me super sad. Plus Breah’s nice. And I’ve been thinking about Ms. Jones saying she never wanted to hear that word again. But I don’t think that solves the problem.”

Grandma raised her eyebrow. “Oh?”

“Yeah, people shouldn’t think about mean words. Once they get in our heads, it’s too easy for them to come out of our mouths.”

“So true, Punkin.” Grandma kissed Wrigley.

“Why do people care about skin color anyway?

A Model for the Impossible Karen Pourbabaee

“Nothing will be impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 NAB

A faithful servant. A humble handmaid. A vessel of God’s grace. A model for the impossible. Mary, the mother of Jesus, checks all the boxes for us. In her gentle manner and meditative soul, she works with God’s plan for our redemption.

From Mary’s magnificat in Luke 1:46-55, we know that she truly believes God keeps His promises. She knew the saga of the Israelites, and she believed God’s promise to rescue her people. What she never dreamed was the part she would be asked to play in that plan. But she waited like her ancestors before her. And her heart was ready when it was God’s time for the plan to unfold. The incarnation of Jesus within Mary’s body was the Father doing the impossible. But it took her yes, and it certainly required deep faith. Mary actuates in her life two vital actions needed to labor with God in doing the impossible in our lives, too:

Cooperate with His grace: The angel Gabriel arrived with a glorious announcement and declared Mary full of grace. However, she had to say yes and cooperate with the available grace that God had given her. There will certainly be times that God responds to the questions of our searching, pleading hearts with an answer, a plan. The grace is there, within our grasp. We must also say yes, without delay. Grab the grace--your strength for the journey.

Cling to His promises: Every Word of God can birth a promise in our hearts. Mary clung to the promises of old, a sure Word for her people and a mainstay for her journey. Find the promises you need to fuel your next steps, and hold on tight. Possess the promise—it’s your guide to the goal.

God will never leave or forsake you. He was both within and surrounding Mary, until the promise was delivered. He will do the same for you--the impossible!

Three Opportunities to Be Bold and Courageous in Christ!
1) Share the Gospel from Your Home - with People Actively Seeking Jesus
2) Pray Together Weekly with Thousands Over Important Topics
3) Write and Post Articles Offering Jesus to The Lost and Encouraging the Saints

1) Have you ever wanted to do more for God, but did not know how to get started or what to do? What if you could share the gospel from home (on the phone or by text) with people who contact you directly and are actively seeking Jesus. (Calls and texts are funneled through a secure platform to your phone. Callers do not get your phone number.) Would you be interested in offering these seekers eternal life and building treasure in heaven for yourself? If you would, watch the video HERE to see what one woman in this program has done from home to lead the lost to Christ. Then go HERE and scroll down to learn more and volunteer.

You can volunteer for as little as one hour per week or more if you like. Free training is provided These calls are from people who are actively seeking Jesus and eternal life. I encourage you to volunteer for this program. I have taken these calls before and just signed up to take them again. You will be greatly blessed.

2) Join Intercessors for America and Pray together with thousands for important topics in the United States and around the world. They have live prayer calls several times a week and groups for the world, the United States and for each state. If you have been called to pray, this is a great organization to join and make a real difference in the spiritual battle. They also partner with Voter Voice in the United States and make it very easy to let your local politicians know your approval of or opposition towards pending legislation. They do all the work for you and you just click a few buttons. Go HERE to learn more and sign up.

3) Write and post articles designed to lead the lost to Christ and to encourage the body of Christ in the faith. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit what to write. Then ask Him to anoint and bless your articles so they get to the right people. Then trust that your prayer has been answered and write and post another one. You never know what the Holy Spirit can do with articles that are in line with God's will. Someday in Heaven, you may be meeting some of those people who came to Christ because of your article.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:20 - 21 NIV

You can do this for Jesus!

Please bless us by letting us know if you sign up to pray or take calls or texts from those seeking Jesus.
Increase Sales With an Audio Book
                          or
Make a Nice Income From Home

Recently, I had an email exchange with Dave Walker, a longtime FaithWriters member who grew tremendously in the Writing Challenge. Dave's book, God in the ICU, has done very well with almost 600 Amazon reviews the last time I looked. He was happily surprised to see a significant increase in sales due to the addition of an audio version. You can view Dave's book and listen to a small audio portion HERE. Dave's book was perfect for an audiobook.

Dave did his narration, and for some, that might work out great. But there is an easier way and it is not that expensive. You can learn about it HERE. ACX is an Amazon company, on their site you can place your book up for narrator auditions. You then get offers from narrators who read a sample for you, posting it on ACX. You choose the one you like and make a deal. This is all done online.

I recently had an audiobook done of Gravity on ACX, by a great narrator and believer named R.F. McCoy. You can hear a sample HERE. If you like R.F. McCoy's voice, make sure to request an audition from him. He was professional, diligent and on schedule. You can find his profile on ACX. It costs nothing to request auditions and you will probably get several. I paid Bob $500.00 and keep any profits myself after Amazon's cut. You can also offer to split profits and pay nothing if a narrator agrees.

When your narration is complete and you have paid the bill, your book is automatically loaded for sale on Audible and other outlets. Everything is professional and that's what you want for your audiobook.

Another thought for some readers is to apply to be a narrator. ACX will show you how to do this on their site. If you have a good voice, you could make a nice income from home.

Please let us know if you have signed up for this program.

Fishers of Men in Over 230 Countries
Together We Spread the Gospel On the Net

Not all of us can go around the world as missionaries in person, but we can reach the world online. We can even reach many places missionaries cannot go in person. The world needs sites like FaithWriters, prepared Christian authors and as many Christian articles and books that point to Jesus as possible. The web especially needs your Bible studies, apologetic articles, calls to salvation, nonfiction and fiction articles and books leading people to Jesus. Together we attract lost people from all over the world who need Jesus along with believers who need their minds renewed and encouraged. God has given us a great opportunity to reach many people who may have never heard of Jesus. The image above marks the location of our visitors.

Numerous people from around the world have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior directly through FaithWriters. We contact every person who leaves an email address and provide them with more information. Sometimes we correspond with them several times. We even offer to place them in contact with another believer (FaithWriters member) in their country. Consider how much time people --- especially kids --- spend on the internet these days. Watch this two-minute video from Kimberly on how she found God on the internet

A few unedited emails from people who have accepted Jesus on the site.

1) This first one was from a person who hacked FaithWriters a few years ago. We feared the entire site might be lost. We prayed for our hackers and posted articles letting them know that their salvation was more important than the website. The shutdown of the site stopped and we received this message through our evangelism page. I am certain is was our hacker.

Do You Always Keep a Copy of Your Articles?
We STRONGLY recommend you do this today and occasionally in the future as you add more articles

We appreciated your patience when FaithWriters was down for over two days a few months ago, due to issues with our service provider. The issue we experienced makes this message of even more importance. We do not want you to lose your articles. Therefore, we have been pushing this for over a year and hope you have already taken advantage of it.  You can download a copy of your articles in mass, with one click on the site. If you post regularly, go back and do this once a month or so to capture your newest submissions.

We back up the site regularly but cannot give you a 100% guarantee of there permanent safety. Things happen online as you know. Hackers are a big issue and some out there would like to take a Christian site down. We have had attacks and issues in the past. Thankfully, we do not keep any of your financial information.

If you log into the site and look in the middle left column of the My Account page under Update and Manage Your Profile/Account, you will see the following link on the website.

Click Here to Download a Copy of Your Articles in Mass

When you are logged into the site, click on that link on the website and a copy of your articles will be downloaded to your computer in a zip file. It will be fairly quick depending on your internet speed and number of articles. Save them to your computer or a thumb drive.
While this should download all of your articles, sometimes a couple are missed for some unknown reason. Therefore, double check the downloaded articles by opening each one on your computer. If an important one is missed, you will need to manually copy it to your records from the site. Then going forward, make sure to keep a copy of each new article you post.

KEEP COPIES OF YOUR ARTICLES!!! Make sure to do this today to protect your writing. Log in HERE.

We can learn and improve our own writing by reading the winners.

God Sees a Believers Faith Not Their Sins
by Michael Edwards

In the New Covenant of grace and truth Jesus brought, God promises over and over again He is not remembering, counting or imputing our sins.

"for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jer 31:34 NAS

"FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE." Heb 8:12 NAS

"AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE." Heb 10:17 NAS

The New Covenant has fully replaced the Old Covenant of law that Moses gave.

When a person comes to a saving knowledge of Christ, they are forgiven of all their sins and placed under grace where Sin (noun – inherited Sin nature) is no longer their master with dominion over them and their acts of sin are not being counted.

For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Rom 6:14 NAS

This means that their inherited Sin nature (the master in Rom 6:14) can no longer lead them unto death. It does not mean that they will no longer sin.

When we are born again, we are given a new Spirit that is holy, sanctified righteous and perfected. Our Spirit is sealed in Christ by the Holy Spirit. This seal protects our Spirit from any contamination from the world.

Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave [us] the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge. 2 Cor 1:21-22 NAS

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory. Eph 1:13-14 NAS

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Eph 4:30 NAS

Our eternal God-given born-again Spirit never has a desire to sin and struggles with our flesh our entire life here as we see with Paul in Romans 7.

Think of a letter to the King and on that letter is a seal that keeps the contents secure and assures it has not been opened before He receives it. No one but the King has authority to open this letter. We are that letter to the King with the words written in Christ's blood. The letter is sealed by the Holy Spirit, the guarantee of our redemption to our King and to us.

…you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Cor 3:3 NAS

But our flesh remains unredeemed. Our flesh is still of this world and houses the inherited Sin nature with which we were born. In the end, our flesh pays the ultimate price for our acts of sin and dies. The wages of sin is death.

This division of Spirit and flesh is crucial to understand. God sees our flesh as crucified and dead with Christ. He calls us to do the same by faith and we know for certain it will happen. God calls us to walk in the Spirit and not in the dead flesh right now. We are supposed to regard all believers, including ourselves as being in the Spirit, not the flesh. God only sees us as a living Spirit, not as our dead flesh. We are the only ones who have a difficult time seeing our flesh as dead and ourselves as only in the Spirit. Understanding this division between our living Spirit and our dead flesh is the key to great freedom in Christ.

God only sees our faith and not the sin of our dead flesh. Not only does God tell us numerous times He is not counting or imputing our sins, but He also shows us examples of this in Hebrews 11, the hall of faith. If you read Hebrews 11 you see the great faith of Abraham, Sarah and Rahab to name a few. They look like stellar examples of perfect faith. But what you do not see recorded, is all of their sin, failure, and doubt of God’s words, written about in the Old Testament. This is because God did not count their sins just like He is not counting ours.

"I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins. Isa 43:25 NAS

This is why you never see a believer called a sinner or any sinner subtitle like a liar, thief, etc. in the Bible. All who believe are called righteous, and there is a clear distinction. This is not because they did not sin, because they did, but God is looking for our faith and not our sin. This is also why you never see a believer called a hypocrite except for one time when Peter acts like a legalistic Jew, judging his Gentile friends to impress the self-righteous Jews.

God is not looking at our dead flesh; he sees it as dead like we are called too. He does not see the sins it commits or count them. He is not holding them against us because we are not our dead flesh. Our flesh is simply a temporary tent we still live in until we die and our redemption can be completed. This is when we receive a new glorified body that is free from an inherited Sin nature. A body that will be in perfect sync with our already perfected Spirit. There will be no further struggle with sin or desire to sin.

The value of our old flesh is that it allows our Spirit to remain here and be an ambassador for Christ in this fallen world. This is why God puts up with it. He desires all come to a saving knowledge of Christ and we are here on the front lines to do His work in a form other humans recognize and can relate too. Our flesh is expendable because it is already dead. When we die here it is the best thing that can happen to a believer, so we lose nothing and gain everything.

When Jesus returns, He will be looking for our faith as believers, not our sin.

…However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?" Luke 18:8 NAS

How will you choose to see yourself, in your dead flesh or as a living Spirit in Christ? Will you choose to see your flesh as dead as God does and calls you too? Will you commit to learning how to walk by the Spirit and not the letter? To walk in the Spirit, in Christ? Or will you remain captive to your old nature. It is up to you. If you believe the gospel you are saved right now, but you can walk in the promised land here and now if you will heed God’s instructions and simply believe.

Study the New Covenant of grace and truth that Jesus brought us exclusively for one year, and your life will be transformed. The book of Hebrews is all about the New Covenant, and I have many studies that can help you to enjoy all the freedom Jesus died to give you.

Find several New Covenant studies that go along with this one at the end of this study on this page.

Another Great Way to Improve The Critique Circle

Fellow Members Need Your Help.

Providing comments and critiques for fellow members is of great encouragement to them. It is also the perfect way to improve your writing skill.

Tips on Giving Critiques

Critiquing the work of others requires balance. Being too nice will not help your fellow writers develop their work; being too harsh can crush a writer’s ego (particularly new writers, who tend to be shy about sharing their work). How can you achieve the right balance? Here are some tips:

Take care to point out both what works, and what doesn’t. If you’re new to critiquing, a good hint would be to point out one thing you like (a phrase, a description, an idea) for each thing that bothered you.

Whenever possible, be specific when pointing out things that you didn’t like (don’t just say “I didn’t like this part” or “I’d cut that,” say “I didn’t like this part because…” or “I’d cut that because…”).

Try to offer suggestions when you think a change is needed. Suggestions, even to the point of an offered rewording, can be very helpful; even if the suggestion isn’t exactly right for the author to use, he or she may get a good idea from it, or at least a better understanding of the point you are trying to make.

Be honest and direct, but in a polite and caring way. Holding back your feelings about a piece because you’re afraid to share your thoughts isn’t going to help anyone. Just be mindful of how you share your opinions!

We Also Need Your Article to Critique!
Members and paid editors provide the critiques in the circle. You can even submit your judged Challenge entries to the circle.

"I have a few, very few, trusted friends who will edit me with a scowl. Most people want you to feel good so they give you compliments about your writing, and these don’t help at all (except emotionally). Really, you need some grouches to edit your work." Philip Yancey in a FaithWriters interview.

This is a real chance to help others and receive some very constructive and private critiques of your writing.

We Always Respond to Emails

If you do not receive a timely response to an email, we did not receive your email, or you did not receive our reply. We are constantly battling overwhelming amounts of spam and sometimes emails we should receive end up in our spam by accident.

You should check your spam and make sure that writer-support@faithwriters.com, feedback@faithwriters.com, bea@faithwriters.com and michael@faithwriters.com are on your email providers approved list.

If you have tried more than once and did not receive a reply, click on a contact link at the bottom of most FaithWriters pages and send us a message telling us of the issue. We will try and email you from another email provider.

Article Comment Emails Not Getting to Your Gmail?

In the past, some members have had issues receiving notification emails when their Challenge or other articles receive a comment. We just did a test of the system and placed a Gmail test address in my profile. I then posted a comment on one of my articles. I also did this test on a Challenge article for a member who said she was not getting the emails. In both tests, the email notification of the comment did come through to the Gmail address, but in both cases it went to the junk file in Gmail. So, FaithWriters automatic email system is working to Gmail but may be going to your junk.

If you have not been receiving notifications of comments on your articles, post a test comment on one of your own articles and then check the junk tab on your Gmail. Be aware, my junk tab in Gmail showed there were no junk emails until I clicked on it and found the comment notification email from FaithWriters in there.  If you find any emails from FaithWriters in your junk, move them to your inbox and hopefully next time they will not go to junk. Make sure to check your junk on a regular basis and click on the other tabs just to check. Each time move them to your inbox. There is also a tab titled "view all email" that should be checked. Sometimes Gmail divides email up into different tabs, so check all the tabs once in awhile just in case. This is something you should check if you have Hotmail or others too.
