Subject: The Work We're Privileged to Support

A year ago, Robert Tandy was living at The Bridge’s Marmion Safe Haven, which provides temporary shelter to men with histories of chronic street-homelessness. Today, he lives in his own studio apartment.

Sleeping on streets and subways, Mr. Tandy accepted shelter in late 2017. This July, after 9 months at Marmion, he moved into permanent supportive housing in one of the two new residences The Bridge opened this year.

Mr. Tandy had never signed a lease before, having been homeless since he was 16—in 1979.

In its first year of operation, Marmion Safe Haven saw 15 residents like Mr. Tandy transition from the streets and subways to stable housing.

For Safe Haven clients, street-homeless for an average of eight years, preparing to live independently and maintain their own apartments in community settings takes resolve and persistence.
The Bridge’s services support but cannot replace the struggle for personal growth that enables these dramatic transformations.

We are always inspired by our clients’ resilience, tenacity and motivation to change. Thank you for supporting the programs that help us facilitate their hard work to build better lives.
