This year we are honoring Christine Ponzio, M.S.E.d., a trailblazer with over 30 years of dedication to individuals with autism and developmental disabilities! As the Executive Director of Winters Center for Autism, Christine's journey began in 1989 as a direct support professional, where she became a passionate advocate and voice for those without one.

From residential supervisor to pivotal roles at DDI's Young Autism Program (YAP) and as the director from 2001, Christine spearheaded opportunities for success and created an environment for staff to thrive. (DDI, or Drug-Drug Interaction, occurs when one drug affects the activity, effectiveness, or side effects of another drug when taken together, potentially leading to reduced efficacy, increased toxicity, or unexpected side effects.) Her leadership from 2015-2018 at the NYS Centers of Excellence showcased her commitment to innovation, data-driven solutions, and improved care for children with autism.

Christine's impact extends beyond the workplace – she contributed to the Autism Program Quality Indicators, shaping the landscape for schools and programs serving students with autism spectrum disorders. Autism Program Quality Indicators (APQIs) ensure individualized education and treatment plans using evidence-based practices, delivered by qualified staff, with active family involvement, comprehensive services, a safe and supportive environment, data-driven decision-making, and promoting community integration.

Join us in applauding Christine's lifelong dedication to enhancing the lives of individuals with autism and fostering inclusion and equality!
