Golf Outing Raises $34,000 for Bridge Programs
On September 12th, The Bridge Junior Board held its second Golf Classic at Dyker Beach Golf Course in Brooklyn. The event, generously sponsored by Maspeth Mechanical, was a great success, raising more than $34,000.

Although rain was in the forecast on the day of the outing, it held off until after the day's 100 golfers finished their rounds. Golf was preceded by a barbecue lunch and followed by dinner and a raffle.

All proceeds from the event will benefit The Bridge's programs, which provide housing and behavioral health serves to 3,200 New Yorkers each year.

Thank you to everyone who supported the outing! Photos from the event can be found here.
Program Spotlight: Shelter ACT Teams
Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is designed for individuals who have a serious mental illness and whose needs have not been met by traditional clinic-based treatment programs. Many of those served by the team also struggle with homelessness, substance use, frequent use of emergency services, and criminal justice involvement. To best serve these men and women, treatment interventions are provided in community locations that are convenient to the client. Teams are staffed by a psychiatrist, nurses, social workers, and other clinicians, so that ACT can provide much of the care each client needs.

In 2017, The Bridge opened three shelter-based ACT teams, under a special collaboration with the State Office of Mental Health and the City Division of Homeless Services. The teams serve individuals who are residing in mental health shelters at the time of intake. In addition to providing clinical services, staff on these teams also help clients find, secure, and maintain permanent housing.

ACT teams provide a high level of care, striving to meet with each client at least six times per month. Once individuals served by the team are able to engage in community-based treatment, ACT staff will help clients access less intensive treatment options, such as care coordination, and more traditional mental health services.

Bridge Clients Take a Trip to Coney Island
This month, 35 clients in our Brooklyn residential programs visited Coney Island and Luna Park. The group spent the day enjoying the rides, checking out the beach, and sharing a catered lunch. It was a great opportunity for residents to get out into the community, visit somewhere new, and socialize with their peers!

This outing was made possible by The Bridge Junior Board, which has raised over $200,000 since 2017 to support The Bridge's mission. Funds raised by the Junior Board allow Bridge programs to provide supplemental services and activities, including outings in the community, activity group supplies, and resources to help clients reach their personal goals.

Bridge Resident Nominated as Tenant of the Year
Staff from The Bridge's Herkimer Street Residence and The Supportive Housing Network of New York with Doniqua

Bridge resident Doniqua has been honored by the Supportive Housing Network of New York as a Tenant of the Year!

Doniqua has made huge strides since moving into Herkimer Residence, a permanent supportive housing program with services specifically for young adults, three years ago. When she first arrived, Doniqua, who had previously been in foster care and residential treatment programs, tended to remain alone and had trouble trusting people. But as she settled into Herkimer Residence and saw that the staff there were committed to helping and supporting her, Doniqua started working with her case manager, Liana, on reaching her goals.

Doniqua has worked incredibly hard over the past few years and her accomplishments include obtaining her Certified Nursing Assistant license, becoming CPR and First Aid trained, and receiving her learner's permit and taking driving lessons. Doniqua has also become an active volunteer, learned to ride a bike, and built positive relationships with her fellow tenants.

Doniqua will be honored at the Supportive Housing Network of New York's 2019 Awards Gala. Congratulations, Doniqua!
