Briefs from The Bridge

~November/December 2015

A Message From Our CEO
Dear Friends,

As the New Year approaches, this is a time to celebrate and to reflect.

Here at The Bridge, we have much to celebrate. We provided high quality care to 2,300 people who came to us for help in 2015. We established targeted initiatives to meet the needs of two vulnerable populations -- veterans and older adults. We opened two new residences, including Herkimer Street Residence, which you'll read about below. This means that 120 men and women, young adults, and families now have a stable and supportive home to call their own this holiday season.

We are also celebrating the successes, both big and small, realized by our clients. I hope you take a moment to watch the video at the bottom of this email, and hear our clients tell their own stories of perseverance and hope.

As a friend of The Bridge, please know that your support is crucial to our work in helping vulnerable New Yorkers improve their lives. I hope you include The Bridge in your giving this year. It will make a huge difference to those we serve.

Best wishes for a happy holiday season,

Susan Wiviott

The Bridge Opens A New Supportive Housing Program
The Bridge's newest housing program, Herkimer Street Residence, is now open! Located in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, this permanent supportive building is home to 20 formerly homeless adults with a serious mental illness, 20 young adults aging out of foster care or youth treatment programs, and 20 low income families.

The residence provides a wide array of services to help tenants lead healthy lives, maintain their housing, and improve their social and life skills. Programming will include therapeutic groups, homework study sessions, vocational support, and field trips. The building is staffed around the clock, and case management services are available to all tenants.
Bridge Residences Celebrate Thanksgiving
The holidays can be a difficult time for Bridge clients, since many lack family and community supports. For Thanksgiving, our housing programs put together very special festivities so residents could celebrate the holiday with fellow tenants and Bridge staff. Clients were served a traditional Thanksgiving meal, participated in fun holiday activities, and discussed what they were thankful for this year.
Please Give to The Bridge this Holiday Season!
The Bridge strives to empower every person who comes to us for help by giving him or her the confidence and the tools necessary to lead a healthy, stable, and productive life. Below, watch our clients tell their own stories of how they rebuilt their lives with the help of The Bridge.
Please support the work we do each day to help the most vulnerable in our community. Your contribution goes a long way to helping those we serve build a better future for themselves.
