Subject: Stop taking advice from idiots

It will be the most profitable thing you’ve ever done

OK, if you're easily offended, I'm just warning you... I speak pretty bluntly in this email.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of an “idiot” is…

Give me a few moments of your time, I will explain…

When it comes to group lessons... I advise you to stop taking advice from idiots.

This might be “classified” as a “hot take”, but I’m being 100% serious.

I have been helping small studios and music academies switch to group lessons for 10+ years at this point.

During that time, I have heard some variation of the following phrase over and over again:

  • “Oh, we ran a survey and our families don’t want a group lesson program.”

  • “We tried to start a group lesson program a few years ago, and we barely got any registrations.”

  • “People don’t want group lessons in our area / city.”

  • “I asked the teachers in our school - and none of them want to teach a group program”

  • “The students in our school say they think group doesn’t work”

Does this sound familiar?

OK, this is where I will refer to my previous advice.

Stop taking advice from idiots (i.e., a foolish, uninformed person)

There’s a great quote from the inventor Henry Ford:

“If I’d asked my customers what they wanted, they would have told me a faster horse.”

Don't look for consensus on “group piano” or “group lessons” in general.

Don’t ask your students. Don’t ask their parents. Don’t ask your staff.

Because...

SPOILER ALERT: Most parents aren’t going to want them.

Nothing against them… they mean well.

It’s just that they don’t know what they’re talking about.

MASSIVE DISCLAIMER:

I can hear the collective "gasps" from those reading now. "Daniel! How rude! Calling your customers idiots! I'm unsubscribing!"

Yes... it's true. I am using some shock value here. But - this is just for the purpose of getting the attention of school owners. I have been "preaching" this message for 10 years now - and the message just doesn't tend to get through until I really dial up the emotional charge in the messaging.

Having said that...

I’m going to recommend that you ignore them. Just like Henry Ford up there.

But that doesn’t fully solve the problem….

If parents are against group lessons… how is it that I’ve helped 900+ studios convert to group lessons successfully since 2017 with little-to-no parent pushback?

How!?!?!?

That is going to be a topic in our free upcoming webinar on how to start a high-capacity group program.

Most academy owners make 3 critical marketing errors when starting a group program.

In the webinar, we’re going to show you how to avoid those errors.

And we're going to show you the winning message that I’ve been teaching my clients for years.

And we’re teaching this message for free.

Not only that, we’re going to show you:

  • How our curriculum is the ONLY method in the world that truly allows for students to move freely within the context of the group

  • How our “Discovery” classes build community and camaraderie between students and teachers

  • How we prep kids for exams and recitals in the context of our group program

  • How we message the program so that parents don’t push back against group

  • A sneak peak into our method books, teacher guides, equipment lists, and curriculum

  • Show you how much more you can make in your studio or academy by using Piano Express

  • How we’ve made every other group program in the world irrelevant

  • How we’re going to take your current students and help them move through the beginning stages of music 2x - 3x faster than they currently are
