Subject: QSO Today: Tramping New Zealand on 80 Meters DSB

QSO Today Message
Dear Friend,

You may have noticed that I changed the format of the weekly message that comes to you if you are on my list.  If you are reading it with your web browser, then you will see all of you listen options on the right side of this message beginning with Apple Podcasts.  If you are looking on your phone, then the listening options are below "This Week's Sponsors".  If you have a smart phone like an iPhone or Android, then using a podcast manager like PodBean or Stitcher is the easiest way to get updated podcasts automatically.  I still love and use Stitcher.

My QSO this week is with Eric Sears, ZL2BMI, from New Zealand, whose claim to fame is his home brew DSB, or double side band, rig on 80 meters that became a landmark project in the home-brew QRP world.  There are links on the show notes page if you want to build one yourself.  Eric still builds this rig today.

However, during the QSO, I was wondering and asked Eric, why build a QRP 80 meter voice rig given that New Zealand is in the far corner of the World.  Given that the goal of this project was extremely focused on a specific outcome in the service of his real passion. His answer surprised me at first, then made obvious sense.  Listen for his answer.

Thanks for listening.

73, Eric 4Z1UG
