Subject: QSO Today: Low Frequency Propagation

QSO Today Message
Dear Friend,

I am in the Pacific Northwest this week visiting my father who fell recently and needs a bit more care in his 90th year. I don't get to the USA more than once a year at this point with the obligations of work, community, and family in Israel.  So making the time here count is really important.

When visiting my dad, in his community of older people, I realize just how important our ham radio community is to me and the other hams who are active on the air and in their clubs.  Our ham community provides focus and opportunity to retired people, as well as the opportunity to socialize and communicate whenever there is an urge to sit down at the rig to make a QSO on the air. We humans are social animals who need human connections to be happy and content.  How lucky we are to have discovered amateur radio, especially if we live alone.

My guest this week is Bob Logan, NZ5A, who reinforces this idea with his technical interests in low frequency propagation as well as just rag chewing with his friends on the air.  We even touch on the Amateur Radio Code of Conduct, a gentle reminder of how we should conduct our amateur radio life.  I had a great time with Bob, and I know that you will too.

I will be speaking at the West Valley Amateur Radio Association meeting in San Jose, California, on November 13th, about podcasting, the QSO Today Podcast, and what I have learned from 275 terrific interviews.  If you are in the area, please come to say hello.

Thanks for listening.
