Subject: QSO Today: I "grok" this QSO

QSO Today Message
Dear Friend,

As a kid, I loved to read horror books, like Dracula and Frankenstein, but also science fiction books by Arthur Clark, Isaac Asimov, and Robert Heinlein.  They provided a glimpse of the future and perhaps asked questions about human evolution and technology that we are asking now.  The term "grok" was from the Martian language in Robert Heinlein's A Stranger in a Strange Land, where it mean't to drink in the reality and to understand and experience it.

Richard Factor, WA2IKL, "groked" the reality of radio and technology from the science fiction literature of the 50's by the same authors and has spent over 60 years in amateur radio.  His radio and technology interest led him into the New York City broadcast business and ultimately to establish his own manufacturing company, Eventide, building broadcast electronics, now over 50 years old.

WA2IKL likes to tinker.  He modified his Toyota Prius to act as his emergency power backup for his house.  Richard provides excellent documentation on this project and discusses it with me in this QSO Today.

Thanks for listening.
