QSO Today with Eric Guth, 4Z1UG

Dear Friend,

The Summer is off to a good start here in Israel, hot days and cool nights. We are up in the hills at almost 3000 feet elevation where the air is dry and the temperature drops as soon as the Sun goes down. Great swimming weather. Our government is still making entry to Israel difficult for non-citizens, requiring Covid testing at both ends of every flight. Since they advise staying home this Summer due to potentially tricky travel policy, we are also staying home and not traveling abroad anytime soon.

Frankly, I am so busy working on the podcast and the QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo, in addition to my regular job, traveling does not see like an option until after the August event. The Expo now has over 90 presentations that are described on the Expo website. We are back on the vFairs platform that we used last August. We look forward to "smooth sailing" through the event.

I posted Andreas Spiess, HB9BLA, last week. Andreas started a YouTube channel because he wanted a way to teach is niece about electronics. These lessons drove him to build out his workshop and his YouTube channel to over 300,000 subscribers where he teaches electronics, Arduino and Raspberry Pi controllers, LORA radio, and so much more. He is an amazing teacher and and his channel is one of my favorites.

Chip Angle, N6CA, is my guest this week. Chip got the VHF and above "bug" early in his amateur career that has spanned over 60 years. He builds microwave beacons, likes to work microwave contests, and is an active contributor to the San Bernardino Microwave Society. It turns out that he knows and knew many of the hams that I knew growing up on Southern California. I enjoyed this QSO with Chip to shake loose old memories while learning more about him.

Have a good week, 73,

Eric, 4Z1UG
