BUILD A 40 METER TRANSCEIVER AT THE NEXT QSO TODAY VIRTUAL HAM EXPO

LOS ANGELES, Ca - Rex Harper, W1REX, returns to the QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo on Saturday March 25th at 10:00 AM PDT or 1800 UTC with his live build-a-thon, “Build A Simple Station and GOTA (Get On The Air!), where he will build, with his audience, a simple 40 meter transceiver kit, available from Rex’s kit company, QRP-ME.  Once the transceivers are built, the builders will  attempt to contact each other on the air that afternoon.  A follow-up on Sunday, March 26th, called “We all GOTA-ed…So what happened? What worked and what didn’t?  A wrap up… will finish off the weekend’s build-a-thon.

Based on our Expo theme: New Amateur License - Now What? Rex’s build-a-thon is one option of many that will be displayed at the Expo, where a new ham licensee with a very limited budget and a desire to take a step forward, can build a new, very simple, transceiver in two hours or less with Rex’s help on the Expo’s vFairs virtual platform.  This 40 meter CW transceiver, will allow any ham radio licensee, including Technician class, to discover home building and CW as one of the more exciting and re-emerging ham radio operating modes.

“We hope to increase the odds that one of our kit builders will make a successful contact by putting the transceiver on the same 7110 KHz Novice frequency as all of the other kit builders.  If we get 100 plus hams to build the kit over the weekend, we may be making contacts if band conditions, propagation, and other factors are favorable”, said Rex, W1REX.

"We are encouraging every ham radio licensee, from beginner and unskilled to old timers, with years of expertise, to come together at the Expo to share, learn, and mentor each other while contributing to our mutual ham radio success", said Eric Guth, 4Z1UG, creator of the QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo and the QSO Today Podcast.  “Imagine an opportunity, over the weekend, attend over 40 interactive presentations, and to sit with other hams, at our virtual round-tables for conversation and discussions, to strengthen our amateur radio community not only in North America, but around the world”.
