Happy Hump Day to you. I hope your week is productive and that you’re enjoying this beautiful (cooler) weather.

So… Last night I watched Gotham City.



For those who don’t know… it’s the backstory on Batman.

Where he was from… his childhood, and all those who influenced him.
 
It got me to thinking. 

Where you start has almost nothing to do with the trajectory of your life.
 
Outkast got their start in local Atlanta nightclubs.


 
President Obama was born in Honolulu Hawaii… and partially raised by his Grandmother and Grandfather.



Oprah was boon to a teenage single mother in Mississippi.

Origin stories are amusing. It the part that everyone relates to. It makes us think, “If she can do that, I can do it to. I’m starting from basically the same place.”
 
Back stories are provide the perfect scripts for cable television, bestselling books, and blockbuster movies, but  only thing ‘similar’ about back stories is that they’re all different.

You can’t look at someone’s success and think that if you follow the same path and make the same moves, that you’ll end up with the same success.

That’s not how it works.

Yes, everyone has an origin but the origins don’t change the world. Origins aren’t what people are known for.
 
It’s the brilliant actions they take along the way that makes an impact.

So… no matter your back story, what action are you going to take to change the world.  Or least change your future? Or change your business?

Back stories are fun but action changes the world around you.
