Pure Life Ministries was founded in 1986 as a support group in Sacramento, California. But within four years we relocated to Kentucky and began the Residential Program. Since that time, so many years ago, we have not wavered from our vision to lead Christian men and women into purity through a deeper life in God.
The message of the cross has been our constant theme and proclamation to those who have been worshiping at the altar of sexual idolatry. In his first letter to the church at Corinth, the apostle Paul wrote, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
By 2002, the Residential Program had increased to 40 men, growing to 55 men in 2004. Renovations in 2009 allowed us to house 63 men, before reaching its current capacity of 75 students in 2010. It has been wonderful to experience the Lord’s faithfulness and miraculous provision over the years.
But, even more than that, it has been amazing to witness God’s heart for those who have spent their entire lives running from Him and rebelling against His will. With full hearts we can lead these men to exclaim, “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23) What other hope do such rebels have? Praise the Lord for establishing a place where such men can seek Him without all the distractions and temptations of the world continually assaulting them.
When the Lord first called Kathy and I to give up our lives in this world and start a ministry for men in sexual sin, we could not have imagined all that He had in store for us. We have experienced periods of poverty and periods of abundance, times of painful trials and times of peace and joy. But through it all He has never forsaken us or failed to provide what was needed.
It has been such a joy to see Him call others with the same burden to lay down their lives here for the sake of these men, and I could not be more grateful for our counselors whose lives testify to the power and love of God.
In the last year or so, God has been raising up new counselors in our midst, which has led to a need for more office space on our Residential campus. Back in July, our Maintenance staff began a new project to add five new offices to accommodate this growing need. We’ve developed a two-part plan for this project and hope to have Phase One completed before the end of the year. It will include the foundation, the shell of the building as well as the HVAC system. We anticipate it to cost us around $65,000. We will hopefully begin Phase Two at the beginning of the new year. It should cost about $45,000 to finish out the interior of the offices.
Recently, much of our administrative staff have been working towards their biblical counseling certification so they can also counsel individuals in the Overcomers At-Home Program. This will better enable us to minister to the growing number of individuals reaching out to us for help, as well as easing the burden of our fulltime counselors.
As I am sure you are well aware, 2020 has been a year of tremendous turmoil for our nation, and much chaos has unfolded over the last several months. The Bible warns us of unparalleled deception and perilous times in the Last Days. With the increase of lawlessness, the need to reach those in sexual sin has never been greater. We are so grateful for your partnership and faithfulness to this Ministry. We hope and pray God will continue to keep you, protect you and supply all of your needs in Christ Jesus!
