The release of the Paradise Papers earlier this week took the whole media world by storm. The so-called “Paradise Papers” is the term coined by investigative journalists to refer to the leakage of seven decades' worth of information representing more than 1,400 GB of data, containing about 13.4 million documents. A major part of these information was hacked from the database of a renowned corporate service provider whilst the rest was illegally sourced from corporate registries located across 19 jurisdictions.

These papers are now being investigated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (the "Consortium") who has exposed the private financial affairs of hundreds of imminent personalities and conglomerates.  The Consortium has also ruthlessly criticized and questioned the transparency of well-established International Financial Centres including Mauritius.

In light of the gratuitous fallacy that is being disseminated on the global news platform, the Prime Minister of Mauritius has issued an official statement to provide further clarification on Mauritius as a jurisdiction of transparency and substance and to reaffirm the island nation’s commitment to contribute to the sustainable development of the African continent.
