This month, it is all about female energy. That's how you will get to know me, Yvonne, the author of Cortijo El Sarmiento, a little better. You'll find out why everything for me is about food and drinks, and which part of Almería really makes me happy.

May we introduce - Yvonne

Yvonne is a typical Rhinelander - a happy soul. As a sommelier, she is also a professional drinker 😀. In simple words, she can explain which wine matches which food. Or which time, as it is always 5'o clock somewhere. She is also our walking Wikipedia and an infinite source of ideas. This may make it a wonderful holiday for you, but it also regularly makes the rest of the family go crazy. You can definitely ditch your travel guide, because if you allow her, Yvonne will plan out your stay meticulously to the very last detail. Including plans B, C and D just in case you spontaneously change your mind.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

First of all, there's one absolute No-Go. And that is asking me in advance about the wines we will be tasting. Why? Well, because it depends on so many factors. What time of year are we in, how you and your fellow vacationers tick, and which food is in season at the time. After all, a few tapas are a must at the wine tasting - at least when sitting at an Andalusian table. Not to mention the fact that I'm a very spontaneous person. Occasionally, I only decide half an hour before I start. So there you go, now you know one of my weaknesses 😀

Andalusian Tasting Night

Once a week we put together the best of Almería and the whole of Andalusia. Without having to drive a single mile, you can enjoy the best of what our region has to offer. Together with the other guests, you can taste olive oils from different varieties of olives. The world-famous Jamon Ibérico, the best goat cheeses, the famous RAF tomato from Almería, and sausages such as chorizo and morcilla. And of course, a wine from Almería is an absolute must on that evening.

Female empowerment

I don't like the new-fashioned gender thing at all. Just to get that straight. I always wanted the same job opportunities and the same salary as men. I could manage that perfectly without gendering. But unfortunately, not all girls have such a smooth start to life as I did. With a superb education and lots of opportunities. That's why we have been supporting a school and health center in Uganda for quite a few years. In addition, we sponsor a girl who attends that school. She is the only one of 5 siblings that go to school. By now, many guests are supporting this project diligently. Would you also like to give a girl the chance of a better life?

I lost my ♥️ in Cabo de Gata

Most tourists mainly associate Cabo de Gata with its stunning beaches. But this natural park has so much more to offer. For example, the Ruta de las Minas, which runs from the famous Cortijo del Fraile to the largest of the gold mines.
