Subject: Be the Change: Embrace Opportunities, Overcome Challenges

Your Gifts Create Opportunity

Dear Friends,

I am continually amazed by the transformative impact our donors have on shaping our work! Together with you, Friendly Water creates opportunities.

According to the UN, more than 2 Billion people still lack access to clean drinking water. Your giving helped to provide over 1,000,000 Liters of water security to villagers in western Kenya in 2023 alone!

Most of our funding comes from grassroots supporters like you! Our incoming Board Chair, Denny Kautzmann, and his wife Carol, understand the importance of individual giving to our mission.

For 2024, they have offered us a Matching Challenge of $100,000!  In order to succeed at this challenge, Friendly Water must also raise $100,000 from our supporters.

Can we count on you to help meet this goal?

Online gifts can be made at https://friendlywater.org/you-can-help/.

We hope you will continue on this journey with us!

Executive Director

Local villagers work in a permagarden as part of Friendly Water's Sustainable Food Program.

Friendly Water trains communities in the production and use of Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSBs) for construction projects as part of our Better Building Program.

Students in the villages we serve now have year-round access to water from the Rainwater Catchment Tanks (RCTs) built as part of our Water Security Program.

Friendly Water's certified, high-quality multipurpose liquid soap is made by villagers and sold at the market as part of our Good Hygiene Program.

What's New in 2024?

Priorities this year include:

  • Enhancing Food Security by building 40 new permagardens.

  • Increasing Water Security by building 40 Rainwater Catchment Tanks at schools and clinics (that's another one-million liters of storage- for the third year in a row!)

  • Continuing to keep all jobs local and within the community we serve. Last year over $45,000 in wages were paid to local masons, soap-makers, laborers, administrative workers and more. This year we want to increase that number to $55,000.

  • Improving the health of communities by expanding the sale of high-quality, multi-purpose soap.

  • Promoting the use of Clean Water by designing and producing a water filter in-house.

  • Continuing to expand ties with County and National government officials.

  • Offering the opportunity for Improved Sanitation by evaluating our desiccating toilet prototype for performance and desirability.

  • Implementing the design and sale of straight Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSBs) for use in building construction.

  • Registering Friendly Water for the World as a Kenyan CBO.

The U.S. dollar goes a long way in Kenya, enabling Friendly Water to maximize the utility of our donors’ contributions. Please consider joining us in creating the opportunity for communities to build a brighter future for themselves.
