Wilton Historical Society

Get into the Fourth of July spirit. Docents in Colonial dress will demonstrate Colonial activities, from firing Revolutionary War style muskets to spinning and blacksmithing. Kids can try spoke shaving, weaving, and flax-breaking. And there’s ice cream! The Historical Society will also debut a new exhibition: “Rebels and Redcoats: The Aftermath of the Battle of Ridgefield” accompanied by a new “History is Here” video by Associate Curator Nick Foster.  More...

A special Independence Day event: “Paths of Patriots.” Learn about Westport’s role in the American Revolution and other conflicts by visiting the gravestones of those who served. Even as you hear the story of colonists fighting for their freedom, you will also hear the stories of enslaved Africans, who chose sides - and fought for their voices to be heard. More... 
Bike Parade and Lawn Games

Sun. July 4, 10am - 12:30pm
Pequot Library
Southport

Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club drummer Chris Frantz leads the parade for the 3rd year running. The parade starts at the Five Corners in Southport Village with decorated bikes, scooters, and wagons, which then parade down Pequot Avenue to arrive at the Great Lawn of Pequot Library where kids and family can enjoy face-painting, sack races, hula hooping, bubble gum contests and crafts. More...

Celebrate Independence Day with tours, music, games, — and primary source documents! Walking Tours every hour on the half hour will show how former residents of the Keeler Tavern site lived their lives, sought liberty, and pursued happiness. From 12 to 2 pm, The Angry O'Haras will play their progressive bluegrass music; there’ll be colonial-era games and the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence. More...

Board member Rick Peterson will be reading the Declaration of Independence, complete in his colonial attire, followed by a number of surprises. ALSO on view through Aug 14, History Through the Artist’s Eye an exhibit co-sponsored by the Stamford Art Association and the Stamford History Center, featuring artworks that use history, including personal memories and experiences, in various ways to inform their creation. More...

Workshop: Creativity for Change

The Norwalk Art Space

Lorena Sferlazza, Resident Artist and Museum Educator, teaches the first of a two-part, three-hour workshop for high schoolers. Lorena will lead the students in an exploration of the art on view at the Art Space then move to the studio to create paintings, drawings, collages, and more, that reflect who we are - and the community we’d like to build. More...
