An American Story: A New Life in Fairfield County

This exhibit highlights the experiences of 8 refugees and immigrants from Cambodia, Congo, Cuba, Hungary, India, Rwanda, and Syria who have built new lives in Fairfield County. The show honors the centenary of the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants, and at the reception, Jack Leslie, will talk about the current status of immigration in the United States. Shows runs through July 23. More...

Staged readings of the classic screenplay Twelve Angry Men, a tense courtroom drama, in which one holdout tries to convince his fellow jurymen to re-consider the evidence. Written by Westport resident Reginald Rose for CBS TV in 1954, he received an Oscar nomination for his 1957 screenplay. The play is a blistering character study and an examination of the American melting pot and the judicial system that keeps it in check. More...

This 2016 documentary tells the story of Gertrude Bell, British spy, explorer and political powerhouse, who shaped the modern Middle East after World War I. More influential than her friend Lawrence of Arabia, Bell helped draw the borders of Iraq and established the Iraq Museum. Why has she been written out of history? After the screening, a discussion with the directors will be moderated by Maggie Mudd. More...

Jeremy Holmes engages the viewer with beautiful, abstract, three-dimensional forms created out of natural wood. Using traditional wood-working techniques, Holmes soaks 12-foot long planks, and then, improvising as he works, bends, twists and coils the slabs into graceful sinewy forms,  joining them to become stunning free-standing or wall-mounted sculptures.  See both new free-standing and wall-mounted sculptures and a large site-specific installation: made of white ash, this singular 200-foot structure will activate the gallery space as it hangs suspended from the ceiling and walls.
