2021 Summer Youth Program

The 2021 Summer Youth Program at the Brookfield Craft Center will offer children and youth-inspired opportunities to explore creative projects in ceramics, 3D Design, Video Game Design, blacksmithing, jewelry, graphic novel drawing, henna design painting, weaving, glass bead-making, woodworking, etc.

Brookfield Craft Center’s studio instruction will be led by professional artists promoting structured supportive and COVID-safe environments. Classes will be limited in size to ensure social distancing.

Each day, campers will have an art class, followed by a music class, and end with an exciting dance class to release their energy and creativity. Each art class will introduce different art forms, using different materials and at the end of each week the campers will have a number of different projects to take home.

Cartooning/Comic Strip Camp

In this camp session, each student will create their own short comic strip. They will learn how to illustrate the comics, and write text to go along with it. At the end of the class, each student will have their own comic strip to take home.

Kids Love Printmaking Workshop

Printmaking is a blast! In this 4 day, afternoon camp, artist Nancy McTague-Stock will show middle school students the many ways artists can create prints. Nancy will also teach and guide students how to use a real printing press! At the end of the last session, the students will bring home many projects to take home and frame.

Fictional Worlds-Fantasy Map Design Workshop

Using the elements, styles, scripts and artistic techniques of old world cartography, participants will be invited to unleash their imaginations, and to design and produce a color map of their new unique and mythical land, kingdom or empire! By week's end, each camper will walk away with a finished map of their ideal world in the form of a scroll.

Explore the natural world surrounding the Fairfield Museum and learn about the history of people who have lived along the coast. Make a sketchbook, create drawings, paintings, and art inspired by nature. Step back in time and discover what life was like long ago. Write with a quill pen! Make traditional crafts and toys including a corn husk doll, a haversack, sailor’s valentine, and more. HISTORY WEEK CAMPERS 
will be transported back in time to Greenwich’s colonial era. Campers will have the opportunity to weave, cook and create colonial art. They will also learn about the importance of a personal garden and about the plants that could be grown for cooking, medicine and creating natural pigments.

ART WEEK CAMPERS will learn about the Cos Cob Art Colony and the avant-garde work of the impressionist artists that stayed at the Bush Holley House. Activities include painting en plain air, pottery and theater.

It’s The Maritime Aquarium's very own version of Shark Week! Campers will join our aquarists behind-the-scenes for a private feeding of our large sand tiger sharks. They’ll meet our team of divers and watch as they swim with sharks in our Open Ocean exhibit. Other exciting activities will include a private visit to the Shark & Ray Touch Pool where they’ll help hand-feed our friendly stingrays, a classroom visit by a live shark, and seeing a movie in the Aquarium’s new 4D theater. Campers will take home a necklace featuring teeth shed by the aquarium’s very own sharks.

Habitat Explorers

Are you curious about all animals, from all over the globe? Featuring exciting classroom visits from animals from the desert, ocean, temperate forest, and rainforest, this camp will allow us to travel around the world without leaving Norwalk. Talk to the experts that care for all our different animals and learn about the unique places they come from. Campers continue their expedition with a visit to the local seashore with a movie featuring far away locations.

Shark Safari

Campers go behind the scenes to attend a private feeding of large sand tiger sharks, and meet divers as they prepare to scuba dive among the sharks. Plus: hand-feeding the stingrays; a classroom visit by a live shark; and thrills watching the IMAX movie “Great White Shark.”

Junior Aquarist

Young aquarists will explore how the aquarium provides top-flight care to our animals. They’ll have daily hands-on experiences participating in the care of animals such as sea stars, crabs and turtles. They’ll meet one of our mammal trainers, attend a private seal training demonstration and make enrichment items for some of our most popular animals. Campers will have a chance to get their hands wet as they take a trip to explore the local shoreline. They’ll also play a variety of aquarium-themed games, and get to experience the Aquarium’s new 4D theatre.

Aquarium Stars 
June 21 - 25, 9am - 4pm 
The animals are the stars of this week-long series. Each day will be dedicated to one of our marquee groups of animals including seals and mammals, sharks and fish, jellies and corals, turtles, and more! Campers will get to explore the exhibits dedicated to these species and have opportunities for private demonstrations or hands-on experiences including helping to feed some animals. Campers will learn more about our star animals by watching a movie in the Aquarium’s new 4D theatre!

Eco Explorers
June 28 - July 2 9am - 4pm
Investigate the different biomes on our planet and in our Just Add Water exhibit. Campers discover how ecosystems exist within biomes and how communities of animals are connected during a shoreline exploration at a local beach. Campers will participate in a citizen science project learning how to use naturalist to collect biodiversity information, and cruise aboard the Aquarium’s research vessel to help the Aquarium collect data on the animals of Long Island Sound. Campers are encouraged to bring a cell phone or tablet to use as part of the citizen scientist project.

Ocean Discovery Team
July 12-23 9am-4pm

Calling all young scientists! This session features a combination of marine research and engineering in order to instill in young people the knowledge of how we study the oceans to identify the challenges it faces. Campers will learn about the different types of research projects the Aquarium is conducting and work side-by-side with crew on the Aquarium’s research vessel to collect data from biological, chemical, and environmental surveys. Back on land and in the lab, they will analyze their data in order to understand changes that are occurring in Long Island Sound and monitor water quality from our docks. On the engineering side, they will design and test their own plankton nets, participate in marine debris tracking, and brainstorm designs to reduce and remove marine debris.

Jr. Marine Biologist 
July 26-August 6 9am-4pm
Marine biologists work in the lab and in the field; through this in-depth program, young biologists will get a taste of both worlds. In the lab, they’ll set-up, stock, and maintain an aquarium. They’ll learn about and conduct daily care for their animals and learn to use probes to monitor water quality just like the Aquariums aquarist do. In the field, they will record biodiversity data aboard our research vessel from several sites in Norwalk Harbor. Then they’ll use their new biological knowledge to design and carry out a scientific investigation of the behavior or physiology using animals from their tanks. Campers will also get an opportunity to experience the Aquarium’s new 4D theatre.

Teen Apprentice
July 8 - 26, 8am - 2pm 
Aug. 5 - 23, 8am - 2pm
This extremely popular behind-the-scenes experience provides a small group of teens with the opportunity to learn first-hand and hands-on about the operations that keep our marine and terrestrial animals thriving. Apprentices work side-by-side with aquarists and educators to feed our large sharks, rays, fish, and turtles, to monitor the behavior of key animals, create enrichments, and help perform daily maintenance tasks for select exhibits. They will participate in research at the local shoreline and aboard the Aquarium’s research vessel, as well as a local service-learning project. This exclusive program is limited to 14 participants. Additional field trips will be announced before the start of the session.

Three one-week camps with a different Broadway show theme each week! Performers learn and develop songs from The Broadway Show-of-the-Week and present their abridged production to parents and friends on the final day of camp! Summer trends are calling for bright colors, so here we are planing a color explosion with creativity and imagination all from you. Color choices are unlimited and with splash of neons we can even jazz them up more. Let's dress like a super star!

Elegance has no trend and time. This week we will create with your help some beautiful, elegant and stylish looks that Vogue magazine will knock at our doors for inside information :)

Lets choose and art work (or create our own) and design a piece that is inspired by the arts. If you like to create we can create a piece looking like an art. It's all up to us but we will have our fashion show at the end of the week with installation work an art opening.

Pink is such a gentle color, the baby girl pink, rose pink, hot pink…dreamy, pure and romantic. Let's design the best pink Dress with any embellishments you like to have.

Long summer dresses are very much in fashion. Playful, bohemian or just simple, they look fresh and elegant on a boat, on the beach or in the evening stroll along the water. Let's create a beautiful dress together.

August 9-13, 9am-1pm & 1:30pm-5:30pm
Stripes and plaids, beautiful combination of colors in orderly fashion, classically designed for ages. We will show you how to design by braking the rules and using the amazing combinations we can create with them. It is so much fun, we can’t wait to show you.

REDDING
New Pond Farm Education Center
June 21-August 13 9:30am-12pm

Search the stream for crayfish, explore the pond for tadpoles, get up close and personal with our turtles, frogs and other program animals, build survival shelters, learn about woodland Indians, visit with our farm animals, plant and harvest in the gardens, do some nature crafting, play fun conservation games, and so much more. 

This summer program includes two opportunities to swim in our crystal-clear pool, under the supervision of a lifeguard. Young explorers will leave us as nature detectives and nature defenders!

RIDGEFIELD
Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
Each week is unique—inspired by the Museum’s current exhibitions and tailored to specific age groups, with in-gallery learning and art-making. Campers will explore the Museum's galleries with Aldrich teaching artists and educators, create dynamic works of art, move their bodies through mindful activities and games, discover art-making techniques, and build friendships along the way! New activities will be shared every week, inspired by Aldrich exhibiting artists Frank Stella, Tim Prentice, Clarity Haynes, Lucia Hierro, and Hugo McCloud. Caregivers will receive personalized emails from the Camp Aldrich team sharing what their child learned and did each day. The experience will culminate on Friday evenings with an art show of campers' creative projects for family and friends.

Ridgefield Guild of Artists is THE place to be this summer for kids who love art! Summer Camp runs from June 28 through August 13 this year, with seven one-week sessions, 9:30am -12on, Monday-Friday, ages 8–14.

Each week has a special theme and will inspire your kid's creativity: Pop Art, Slime, Printmaking, Cartooning, Contemporary Art, Let's Get Messy and Murals. Guaranteed fun!

Shakespeare on the Sound's Globe Company will present Macbeth Jr. this year!

This camp is designed for 8-15 year-olds who are both serious about acting and new to it! Campers will play theater games, learn acting techniques, experience performing Shakespeare’s text, and learn how to works together as an ensemble as they discover the characters and world of the play. 
Members of The Globe Company will audition for their roles in Macbeth Jr. at the start of camp. Everyone who auditions will get a role.

Our Rising Stars session this year will explore Under the Sea! These little performers will spend each morning in acting, singing and dance class to learn and practice material for a camp show on their final day. Our Rising Stars camp program encourages confidence, independence, and creativity. You'll be amazed at what they can learn in just a few short days!

Center Stage Theatre's summer camp is a half day filled with acting, singing, and dance class as well as rehearsal time for a show that is performed on the final day of camp. This session will explore music of the 80s from hit TV Show Glee and musicals such as Head Over Heels. 

Broadway's Best with Industry Professionals

Our new Musical Theatre Intensive will feature industry professionals as our students spend the week putting together a showcase. The week will feature masterclasses on singing, acting and dance and will culminate with a special performance at our production of The Wedding Singer on July 24th!

Summerstock Theatre Arts Program 

Curtain Call's Summerstock Programs are full-day, theatre arts workshops, with a well-balanced curriculum where students rotate between a team of instructors (in age appropriate groups) to receive specialized instruction in various subjects. Students should bring a lunch each day. 

Summerstock Creative Theatre
June 28 - July 9
9:30am  - 4:30pm 
Through rotating study in Improv, Shakespeare and Modern Acting in age-appropriate groups, students will tap into their own creativity to assemble a showcase performance on the final date. Students will explore scene work for stage and screen as well as develop original scenes and sketches, including their own conceptual Shakespeare scenes drawing dialogue from the sonnets. Grades 6-12

Summerstock Musical Theatre 
July 12 - 23 9:30am - 4:30pm
This fun and focused, full-day workshop will sharpen skills in singing, acting and dance. In age-appropriate groups, students rotate between the three subjects and be introduced to various musicals that share a common theme. The session also includes a day that focuses entirely on audition preparation. The session culminates in a showcase performance on the final date at 7:00pm.

Summerstock Junior Program 
10am - 3pm
These sessions offer a balance of script acting, improv., and musical theatre, including warm-up games and full-group activities, as well as class periods where students receive specialized instruction in age-appropriate groups. Students present a showcase of their work on the final day of each session, and work on special arts and crafts projects relating to their showcase performance.

Camp MoCA Summer Camp

Featuring well-manicured, lush outdoor grounds and a spacious indoor air-conditioned facility to engage in various hands-on art based activities that incorporate STEAM in a "maker-space" atmosphere, Camp MoCA will keep the kids engaged and creative this summer. An early registration discount of $100 per week is available through May 1, 2021. Audition Camp 
August 23-26, 9am-12pm 
Audition Camp returns to Suzuki Schools from August 23rd to the 26th, with a mixture of performance practice, peer review, conductor consultations, and videoed audition review. Each student gets a hands on and personalized session to work towards their audition. A must for any student wanting to prepare for youth orchestras, school orchestras or even college prep. Summer 2021 High School Programs

Westport Continuing Education has expanded summer programs for high school students with the Staples Summer Academy. Summer offerings include High School Credit Courses, College Essay Workshops, Gear Up for AP classes, Grammar and Writing, Biotechnology Careers, Driver Education, and SAT / ACT prep. College Essay Boot Camp will be held online this summer with Staples High School teachers Mary Katherine Hocking and Jamie Pacuk. In this course, get tips for admission interviews from a top-tier college interviewer. New instructor Jennifer Schonbrunn Hinkle presents the College Essay Workshop in person at Staples High School.

Biotechnology Innovative Careers is a new class for students with an interest in chemistry, biology and physics to learn more about the potential career paths that are open (and in high demand) for students in these fields. Students engage in readings, group work and research to discover real-life examples of biotech careers, taught by Steven Delco.

In this five-week workshop, National Geographic explorer and Emmy Award winning filmmaker Mick Davie will teach the art of documentary storytelling. Participants will work in small teams, and Mick will guide them step-by-step through the process of making their own short documentary. At the end of five weeks, participants will screen their work in front of their classmates.
