How should the teacher of God spend the day?
Most people start the day trying to get ahead of it—making lists, planning outcomes, trying to control what hasn’t even happened yet. But A Course in Miracles offers a completely different rhythm. It invites us to begin not with strategy, but with surrender. Not with anxiety, but with trust. The teacher of God doesn’t ask, “What do I need to do to make this work?”
The teacher of God asks, “What would You have me do?” And that shift changes everything.
The Course says, “How simply and how easily does time slip by for the teacher of God who has accepted His protection” (M-16.7:1). That’s not just poetic language. It’s literal. If your day feels hard, it’s not because your life is too much—it’s because somewhere along the line, you forgot who’s really in charge.
A teacher of God doesn’t spend the day trying to plan everything out, fix everyone around them, or force success through their own effort. The teacher of God asks. The teacher of God listens. And most of all, the teacher of God remembers. Because forgetting is the temptation—not chocolate, not cursing, not some old habit. The real temptation is relying on yourself alone.
That’s what the Course calls magic: trying to solve problems with your own strength, your own mind, your own plan. Miracles happen when we pause and say, “Spirit, I’m ready to follow. I’m willing to be shown.” The Course puts it straight: “He must be sure success is not of him, but will be given him at any time, in any place and circumstance he calls for it” (M-16.7:6).
So the question is: Are you calling on it? Not just in the morning, but throughout the day. The Course reminds us, “The teacher of God is reminded of his function every morning and every night, and whenever he forgets during the day” (M-16.4:1). That means this isn’t about being perfect. It’s about remembering again. Coming back again. Asking again.
When I forget that I'm safe, I lock my door. I double-check everything. I stress. But when I remember I’m protected, I relax. I become available for the miracle. And I stop needing to manipulate the moment just to feel safe.
You’re not being asked to fix your whole life today. You’re being asked to trust. To ask. And to let love and peace lead the way.
