Hello Miracle Family,
Have you caught yourself in spiritual competition?
The ego can turn even awakening into comparison. It starts measuring your path against someone else’s path: who understands the Course better, who forgives faster, who seems more peaceful, who has more mystical experiences, who is more “advanced,” who gets guidance more clearly.
That is one of the ways the ego tries to become spiritually impressive. It can even try to become the valedictorian of A Course in Miracles — knowing the language, quoting the lessons, analyzing the metaphysics — while still avoiding the simple application that would bring peace.
In this week’s class, “Why Only God’s Plan for Your Happiness Will Work | A Course in Miracles W-71 | Earl Purdy,” we look at the difference between knowing the Course and actually using it. Lesson 71 does not ask you to prove your spiritual superiority. It asks you to become willing to follow God’s plan for your happiness.
Knowing the Course and doing the Course are not the same thing. You can memorize a lesson. You can quote a section. You can recite Course lines the way people recite Bible verses. But the question is: are you using it when the grievance shows up? Are you practicing it when you feel judged, disappointed, afraid, or superior?
That is where the Course becomes real. And that is where the ego would rather compete.
The Course is not asking you to prove your superiority. It is asking you to take the path of the humble student, willing to be led.
The question is not, “How can I do more than them?”
The question is, “What would You have me do?”
The question is not, “Why is their path moving faster?”
The question is, “Where would You have me go?”
The question is not, “Why is their message so popular?”
The question is, “What would You have me say, and to whom?”
That is how awakening stops being a competition and becomes Divine communication. That is how the Course moves from something you know about into something you live. And that is how you stop trying to prove your spirituality and start accepting the happiness that God’s plan is already offering you.
Spiritual comparison keeps your attention outside yourself by telling you that someone else’s path, timing, or classroom must become yours before you can be happy, but only God’s plan for your happiness will work.
Love,
Earl
