Hello Miracle Family,
Why do you keep going back to the same thought, even when it makes you feel worse?
That’s something to notice as you reflect on Grievance Clouds: Why Your Mind Feels Stormy and How to Clear It | ACIM Lesson 69 | Earl Purdy. Most people assume the storm in their mind is caused by what’s happening around them, but if you look closer, you’ll see something else. There is a part of you that goes back to it, replays it, and keeps it active, like feeding an addiction.
You revisit the moment. You replay the conversation. You reinforce the meaning until it feels completely justified. It starts to feel like you’re just being honest about what happened. But you are strengthening the experience and giving it more reality in your mind.
When you hold a grievance, you are keeping it alive by giving it attention, energy, and meaning. That is what makes it feel real. The more you return to it, the more it feels like something happening to you, instead of something you are continuing.
The ego depends on this. As long as you stay focused on what is wrong, you do not question the part of you that holds on to it. The grievance keeps your attention outward, and that is what allows the pattern to continue.
This is the shift. It is not just about letting the grievance go. It is about recognizing your attachment to it. The moment you see that you are returning to it, you can pause.
And in that pause, something else becomes noticeable.
Practice
Bring to mind one situation you keep returning to
Notice how you replay or reinforce it
Ask yourself: Where am I feeding this grievance right now?
Say slowly: My grievances hide the light of the world in me. I cannot see what I have hidden, yet I want it revealed to me.
Ask yourself: Am I willing to see this differently?
You are not being asked to force the storm away or deny what you feel. You are simply noticing how you keep feeding it, and allowing even a small space where you do not. That space matters because every time you stop feeding the grievance, you weaken what keeps it going.
And what begins to return in that space is not something you create. It is something that was never gone.
Love,
Earl
