Hello Miracle Family,
Who Is Really Running Your Life?
Let’s be honest.
You may think you are running your life, but sometimes your Mama is still driving. Your Daddy is giving directions from the passenger seat. Grandma is in the back telling you what respectable people do. Your boss is checking the speed. And the cute neighbor you barely know somehow gets a vote too.
That is a lot of people in one car.
And this is your life.
It is not your Mama’s life. It is not your Daddy’s life. It is not Grandma’s life. It is not your boss’s life. And it is definitely not the cute neighbor’s life.
So why are you letting all those people’s perspectives, expectations, fears, and beliefs decide where you are going?
Most of the time, you do not even realize you are doing it. You call it being responsible. You call it being realistic. You call it being a good person. You say, “That is just the way I am.”
But is it really?
Or is that just the way you were programmed to be?
A Course in Miracles gives you a direct way to look at this in Workbook Lesson 2: “I have given everything I see all the meaning that it has for me.” You are not simply seeing the world as it is. You are seeing it through the meanings, beliefs, and expectations you learned. Once you recognize that you gave those meanings to the world, you can begin to question whether they still belong in your life.
Borrowed Beliefs Can Feel Like Your Personality
You learned what success was supposed to look like. You learned whether love was safe, whether money was hard to get, whether rest had to be earned, and whether saying no made you selfish.
Maybe nobody explained those beliefs directly. You learned by watching what got praised, what got punished, and what kept everybody comfortable.
Then you forgot they were learned strategies.
You started calling them your personality.
“I am just a worrier.”
“I am just the responsible one.”
“I am just a people pleaser.”
Maybe that is not who you are. Maybe that is who you learned to be.
Why Peace Can Feel So Strange
When you stop obeying the old program, peace may not feel peaceful at first.
Rest can feel irresponsible when you have been trained to prove your value through effort. A healthy relationship can feel boring when you are used to emotional intensity. A clear boundary can feel cruel when you are used to abandoning yourself to keep other people happy.
You may make a loving decision and still feel guilty.
That guilt does not automatically mean the decision was wrong. Sometimes it means the old program is losing control.
Familiar does not mean true. Familiar only means practiced.
Let Spirit Take the Wheel
This is not about blaming your family, your boss, or anyone else. They had programming too.
The question is whether you are going to keep obeying what you inherited.
Ask yourself:
Is this what I truly want?
Does this belief bring me peace or conflict?
Am I making this choice from love or fear?
Is this my decision, or an old expectation speaking through me?
You do not have to silence every old voice before you choose differently. You only have to recognize that the voice is not your authority.
This is your life.
Let Mama, Daddy, Grandma, the boss, and the cute neighbor have their opinions.
Then let Spirit take the wheel.
Choose again. Change your mind. Change your experience. Change your life.
In deep appreciation,
Earl
