DULUTH ART CHAT - "Spirit of Hope" Community Art Mural Moving
Hello art enthusiasts!

The Duluth Public Art Commission (DPAC) would like to send a very special THANK YOU to all who participated in the 2021 Community Art Grid Mural, “Spirit of Hope.” The mural was unveiled at Parsons Alley in May as part of Art Month in the City of Duluth. Currently on display in the lobby of Duluth City Hall, it will be moving to the Duluth campus of Northside Hospital. We hope you’ve had a chance to see the finished product and taken a photo with your square!

The mural was designed by Catlanta aka Rory Hawkins, an Atlanta based artist primarily known for his colorful and fun paintings of cats. Rory has produced hundreds of paintings under the moniker ‘Catlanta’, a name that grew from a few cats Rory spray painted throughout the city of Atlanta in 2011.

A reminder that a commemorative print of the mural is available for purchase. Orders will be accepted until July 15. DPAC Community projects such as this rely solely on donations. By purchasing a print, you will help fund future projects in Duluth and take a piece of Duluth history home with you. The 6"x18" prints of the original artwork can be purchased through DPAC here.

The vision for the DPAC and intention of this program is to preserve the City’s heritage, enhance its character and identity, contribute to economic development and tourism, add beauty and interest to public spaces and architecture and increase opportunities for the public to exper
ience and participate in the arts. We welcome public comments, questions, volunteers!
The Public Art Commission meets 5:30pm on the second Wednesday of every month at Duluth City Hall; all meetings are open to the public. Join us to hear about our recent successes and generate new ideas for future projects. We appreciate our volunteers, and hope that keeping people more informed leads to opportunities for engagement, whether by submitting ideas to DPAC, working hands-on via a project sub-committee, or just connecting with other “artful” folks in the community.
