DULUTH ART CHAT
GREETINGS Art Enthusiasts!

Springtime in Duluth brings a lot of renewed energy, and the ARTS are a huge part of that! Here’s what your local art commission is up to these days….
COMING SOON! There’s a lot of excitement happening in Duluth, and our love for music is a big part of enriching Duluth’s character and identity. With residents and visitors alike enjoying all the entertainment and beauty that Duluth has to offer, the Duluth Public Arts Commission (DPAC), is letting the word out. The FANFARE artwork will be installed in the coming weeks on the trackside of the Red Clay Theatre building in downtown Duluth. It’s designed to spread the word and tout our rich and lively music offerings right here in Duluth… so come on out and enjoy the entertainment, as Duluth shouts it out loud that "We love music!" Stay “tuned….”
A DON’T-MISS EVENT! Speaking of music, please join DPAC and the Parks & Recreation board for the ribbon cutting ceremony of MELODY LANE on Wednesday, April 10th at 6:30pm at WP Jones Park near the playground. This new interactive musical instrument experience is sure to inspire musical prodigies of ALL ages! Come one, come all and celebrate the rhythm of Duluth with your own beat!
Your daily commute may have a bit more “color” these days as DULUTH: Identified is near completion……… Located on the southbound side of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, this mural’s goal was to allow residents of Duluth to stop and reflect on the small moments that make Duluth, “Duluth.” Donning linework representations of crepe myrtles and dandelions, “Duluth Identified” will allow passers-by to remember the simple, beautiful moments in the busy-ness and bustle of their daily lives.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING: Coming up in April, the ROGERS BRIDGE restoration project will go through a milestone review with the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and the project design team. The results of the review will determine when the stakeholders can move forward with the first phase of new construction. The City is hopeful that we will be breaking ground at Rogers Bridge in 2020! Things are on the move! DPAC hopes to celebrate the old and the new in a commemorative way. Current plans are to salvage portions of the old bridge to use for an artful purpose. Interested Metal artists can contact dpac@duluthga.net for further information.

And the icing on the cake??? Don’t miss ART WEEK 2019! Duluth Spring Arts Festival kicks off April 27 & 28, and the celebration continues with a series of events running through May 4, 2019.

The Public Art Commission meets 6:30pm on the second Wednesday of every month at Duluth City Hall; all meetings are open to the public. Join us to hear about our recent successes and generate new ideas for future projects. We appreciate our volunteers, and hope that keeping people more informed leads to opportunities for engagement, whether by submitting ideas to DPAC, working hands-on via a project sub-committee, or just connecting with other “artful” folks in the community.
