Since ordination in 1970, his primary apostolate has been as Director of the international Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and editor of Pioneer, its monthly magazine (founded 1948). Father Barney McGuckian, S.J., was appointed Chaplain to the Worldpriest Global Apostolate in November 2019. He is one of three brothers who are Jesuit priests.
