A DIVER’S PARADISE ISLAND – EXPLORE A PRISTINE INDIAN OCEAN CORAL REEF

Extreme Expedition Tours has established a reputation for its distinctive approach to crafting authentic Tanzanian safaris, prioritising a journey of discovery and adventure that encourages travellers to slow down and foster a genuine connection with nature and wildlife, all while escaping the crowds.

Recognising that clients who are passionate about diving wish to complement their safari experience with a beach holiday Extreme Expedition Tours founder Colin Dobbyne, sought a unique diving opportunity that would be consistent with their brand of adventure and set it apart from the myriad dive centres of Zanzibar and Mafia.

Colin's search led him to the pristine Maziwe Island, just off the coast of Pangani, a hidden gem now available as an exclusive dive destination, whether paired with a safari or as a standalone adventure.

Divers can spend days experiencing the serenity of the vast, untouched and protected coral reefs without the distractions of bustling resorts, large hotels, or crowded beaches.

This extraordinary opportunity not only enhances the true spirit of safari but reinforces Extreme Expedition Tours' commitment to providing unique travel adventures coupled with a top-quality personalised service, in order to deliver an unforgettable diving experience.

MAZIWE ISLAND

The Maziwe Island Marine Reserve, located 36 km northwest of the northernmost tip of Zanzibar, remains largely undiscovered by most dive centres, making it an exclusive destination for adventure-seekers.

This marine reserve boasts a breathtaking reef teeming with more than 400 species of fish and 35 species of coral, alongside a rich variety of sponges, seagrass, and algae.

Additionally, it serves as a crucial breeding ground for green sea turtles, supported by the Friends of Maziwe Turtle Conservation Program, which diligently relocates turtle nests from vulnerable, inundated beaches to a secure area on Ushongo Beach in Tanga.

This commitment to wildlife conservation not only enhances the experience for visitors but also underscores the importance of sustainable and ethical tourism practices in safeguarding marine life.

THE LODGE

Emayani Beach Lodge is a captivating retreat, characterised by a stunning array of comfortable yet rustic bandas, each thoughtfully designed with en-suite facilities.

Nestled along the pristine beach at Pangani and surrounded by lush coconut groves, our lodge provides an idyllic escape where each banda features its own private, shaded sunbed area, allowing guests to unwind just steps away from the soothing waves of the ocean.

This unique setting not only enhances the natural beauty of the surroundings but also invites guests to immerse themselves in the serene coastal environment, making it an ideal choice for both nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

THE DIVE CENTRE

The dive centre is strategically located at the southern end of the lodge, featuring washroom and changing facilities with a dedicated briefing and fitting area.

We offer an exceptional valet dive experience wherein our professional staff meticulously load your tanks onboard, set up your scuba gear, and conduct thorough checks on all your dive equipment, allowing you to simply back roll into an extraordinary underwater paradise.

We proudly provide PADI courses tailored for divers of all skill levels, complemented by a spacious swimming pool designed specifically for beginners to familiarise themselves with the equipment and develop essential diving skills.

As a boutique operation, we provide a personalised approach that emphasises individual attention, comfort, and safety throughout your journey. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our state-of-the-art dive equipment, all purchased in 2024, which is meticulously maintained alongside our compressor and tanks, guaranteeing a safe and enjoyable diving experience for all our clients

HOW TO GET THERE

In the past, reaching this secluded location required a lengthy journey, including a flight into Dar es Salaam followed by a 6-hour drive or even a 10-hour drive from Arusha, culminating in a ferry crossing over the Tanga River and navigating along country tracks amidst the picturesque sisal plantations.

While the remoteness of these destinations adds a unique charm and excitement to the adventure, Extreme Expedition Tours has joined up with Auric Air to offer direct flights from both Arusha and Dar es Salaam.

This new option allows travellers to save valuable time while enjoying the comfort of air travel, making it easier than ever to immerse themselves in the stunning natural beauty and wildlife. It is important for divers bringing their own equipment to be mindful of the luggage restrictions associated with these flights.
