Seiko Prospex - the history of a scuba diving icon

Seiko produced its first diver's watch in 1965, but its dedication to customer-focused deep-diving timepieces began with a simple letter, sent by a diver frustrated with the quality of watches available for his profession at the time. Following a series of world-firsts, Hollywood features and pop-star endorsements, Seiko Prospex timepieces went on to become some of the most popular and iconic dive watches ever produced.

Long-term protection needed

An eight-year study by Marine Megafauna Foundation finds whale sharks need long-term monitoring to save the species from extinction.

Two ornate sightings

MMF scientists spotted the rarest of eagle rays not once, but twice, while conducting research off the coast of Mozambique.

Featured Photographer Todd Aki

Todd Aki was born and raised around the ocean in Hawaii, learned to scuba dive in 1990 and hasn’t stopped since. In 2006 he got his first underwater camera, a Fuji F810, and took his first photo of a fish butt. Now he can’t even dip a toe into a tide pool without taking a picture of the underwater life. Sharks are one of his favourite underwater, subjects although he admits to being addicted nudibranchs as well.

Check out Todd's fantastic portfolio here and if you'd like to see your images featured on DIVE's website, please get in touch and send us a sample of your work.

DIVE Winter 2022 Print Issue

Our Winter 2022 print magazine is out now - and we're keeping it as cool as ever starting with Douglas David Seifert's epic dive journey through God's Pocket, Canada, and Alfie Minnaar's visit to Una Una - an Indonesian Island so pristine that almost nobody knows about it. Leading marine ecologist and expert crustacean taxonomist Peter Davie takes us through the fascinating world of crabs, and Jeremy Brown brings us a stunning photographic display of Bonaire's bioluminescent ostrocods. That's already pretty cool - but if you need more, we have the coolest interview of them all, as we talk to Her Deepness herself, the inestimable Dr Sylvia Earle, about her new book Ocean: A Global Odyssey.

DIVE Magazine is created with some of the best writing and underwater photography in the world. Much more than a simple guide to the latest widgets for your scuba gear, we explore in-depth (pun absolutely intended) stories from the world's oceans, from the pristine reefs of remote islands to the devastating consequences of unsustainable human activity. We produce four art-quality coffee-table print publications each year, plus an app and webviewer through which you can access all of our latest content and more than 100 of our back-issues in digital format.
