A sad life in captivity comes to an end

Lolita – the oldest orca in captivity, has died in her tank at the Miami Seaquarium, aged 57. She spent 53 years of her life in a pool measuring just 80 x 35 feet (24.5 x 10.7m) in size. Plans to release her into a sanctuary based in Puget Sound, from where she was originally captured in 1970, were announced earlier this year.
