Endurance proven worthy of the name

It took more than a year to sink her, and more than a century to find her, but Sir Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic exploration vessel Endurance was finally located this week, in 'astonishingly good condition' for a 107-year old wooden shipwreck...

Stern stuff required

British Antarctic Survey is recruiting divers who share Shackleton's drive to explore - although BAS's jobs come with proper (and heated) board and lodgings! Find out if you might qualify for the coolest jobs in the world...

Inspirational PADI women

To mark International Women's Day this week, PADI profiled eight women who overcame adversity to spread their love for the ocean to others.

Ireland win for basking sharks

The Irish government has announced protections for basking sharks in Irelands waters. It would be really grand if the UK would follow suit.

Ukraine Appeal

As many as four million people have fled Ukraine with little more than the clothes on their backs, as the shelling of Ukraine's cities continues unabated. Civilians have been deliberately targeted, including the bombing of a maternity hospital in Mariupol, and the situation grows worse by the hour. The Disasters Emergency Committee's fundraiser will ensure that money donated will be sent where it is most needed. People need help. Donate using the link below.

Featured Photographer Nurul Yazid

Nurul Yazid, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, grew up fascinated by the ocean, learning to swim at the age of 3 and snorkelling with fish by the time she was 5. After deciding the corporate world was not for her, Nurul became an award-winning PADI dive instructor and later progressed to award-winning underwater photographer. Nurul enjoys both wide-angle and macro, but has a particular love for photographing sharks.

Check out Nurul's beautiful portfolio here, and get in touch if you'd like to see your work featured on our website.

The Great Shark Snapshot

The Shark Trust is starting a citizen science initiative this summer, asking divers and snorkellers to report their shark, ray and skate sightings.

PADI Blancpain partnership

PADI has teamed up with the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer to aid in the quest to protect 30 per cent of the world's ocean's by 2030.

Shearwater's new-look Teric

Shearwater Research has launched a seasonal addition to its Teric dive computer range, modelled after the historical helmets and tools of divers.

Powerful new Sea Dragon

Underwater camera specialist SeaLife has launched a powerful new 3000 lumen photo and video light, with wide beam, spot and red light modes.

Supplies of our Winter 2022 print magazine are dwindling so if you haven't ordered your copy yet then now is the time to do so. Make sure you don't miss out on Douglas David Seifert's epic dive journey through God's Canadian Pocket; Alfie Minnaar's visit to the remote Indonesian island of Una Una; Leading crustacean taxonomist Peter Davie's guide to the fascinating world of crabs; Jeremy Brown's stunning photographs Bonaire's bioluminescent ostrocods; and Mark 'Crowley' Russell's guide to why body weight isn't as straightforward for buoyancy as it seems - and for the coolest interview of them all, we talk with Her Deepness herself, the legendary Dr Sylvia Earle, about her new book Ocean: A Global Odyssey.
