Meta-analyses and laboratory mechanistic support
In laboratory (preclinical) studies, saw palmetto extracts have been shown to inhibit 5α-reductase (blocking DHT formation), modulate androgen receptor binding, reduce COX/LOX inflammatory pathways, and exert antiproliferative effects on prostate cells.
A modern consensus review recommends the extract of saw palmetto as a safe option for mild-to-moderate lower urinary tract symptoms and BPH — with minimal side effects and no interference with PSA testing!
