Subject: New Task Force on Gun Violence and Upcoming Important Dates

Dear Neighbors,

Last week, Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution I authored establishing a Task Force on Gun Violence. The task force will work to identify ways we can further prevent gun violence in Austin. My hope is that by bringing together a diverse panel of experts, the task force will ultimately provide a tailored list of actionable strategies that the council can advance. Examples of perspectives that could be represented on the task force may include, but are not limited to, ER doctors or trauma surgeons, survivors of gun violence, students, first responders, domestic violence service providers, or members of communities that have been particular targets of these horrific acts of gun violence. Check out this video from KXAN to learn more about this initiative.

Each council member will appoint one person to the Task Force on Gun Violence. Anyone who wishes to serve should submit an application via the City's online application portal. If you have questions about the task force or if you would like to discuss your interest in serving, please contact my chief of staff at Kurt.Cadena-Mitchell@austintexas.gov

I also would like to remind folks of upcoming opportunities to engage and provide input on homelessness and the 2020 BudgetI particularly wanted to highlight the September 7th District 10 Town Hall on homelessness. Find details on all events below.

If you are unable to attend these events in person, I invite you to share your comments with us by emailing District10@austintexas.gov. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Alison Alter
